Football Injury News Update
Nikica Jelavic, the Glasgow Rangers striker has been sidelined for 3 months following a successful ankle operation. The Croatian striker sustained the injury last Saturday in a game against the Hearts. Ian Black was the midfielder who caused it with a late,
clumsy tackle. But Rangers boss Ian Durrant revealed that the operation was a success and they were hoping for a quick recovery.
Durrant told reporters, “It's an injury we could have done without but we just have to dust ourselves down and get on with things. It's a shame for the player because he had made such a great start to his Rangers career but we've got our fingers crossed
he'll be back soon.”
“Ally McCoist and the club doctor have spoken to people in Croatia and they are saying the operation was a complete success. The medics over there are really pleased with the way the operation went and that's good news for us. Nikica is very positive about
things. He's obviously disappointed but he's determined to come back and start his rehabilitation.”
“Hopefully the recovery time will be shorter than predicted but until we have him back here with us, we won't know exactly what to expect. Nikica will get intensive rehab when he gets back to Glasgow and hopefully he returns to the team stronger and fitter
than before.”
Losing Nikica so early in the season will be a huge disappointment for the club. The youngster had made a promising start to the season and to lose him to a lengthy recovery period may prove costly for the club. Nevertheless, both his coach and doctors are
confident of a full recovery and are hoping that the player will be stronger when he makes his return, which will most likely be next year.
Back in the English Premier League, Chelsea right back Jose Bosingwa has recovered from his injury. The Portuguese international is fully fit once again, a year after he damaged his knee against an aggressive Aston Villa side. An inside source revealed that
the right back played for 45 minutes with the reserve team and then featured for 75 minutes in a closed door match.
The 28-year-old Portuguese will expect to be selected for the squad which travels to take on Aston Villa next week. Bosingwa was brought to Chelsea from FC Porto in 2008 for a fee of €20.6 million. Since then, he has scored two goals and set up five for
the Blues. However, more is expected from him and he will hope to deliver once he has returned to the squad.
Phil Jagielka, the Everton centre back has withdrawn himself from the England squad, ahead of the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifying match against Montenegro. The defender suffered a hamstring injury during training and has decided to pull out of the squad. Capello
will have to make some last minute changes to the squad, and it is reported that Gary Cahill is being considered for the vacant spot.
