Football: Inter Milan President confirms Manchester United Wesley Sneijder offer

As the World Cup finally creeps towards a close, the rumour mill is churning out transfer gossip around the clock.

To start with, English Premier League giants, Manchester United are said to be aiming to sign Netherlands star midfielder Wesley Sneijder, for a reported 29 million pounds. United are looking for replacements for their veteran players Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, and Sneijder seems to be the perfect replacement for Scholes. Also, United are looking to raid Inter for their teenage sensation, Mario Balotelli. Inter Milan has officially confirmed that United have made fresh official bids for the star but are highly unlikely to offload the Dutchman. It only cost them 13 million pounds to sign him last year from Real Madrid, and he was the mainstay in the sides Champions League winning campaign. He is a regular goal scorer and one of the very best play makers in the World.

Inter Milan President Massimo Moratti confirmed, "The interest from Manchester United in Sneijder is real, but I didn't look into it in an attempt not to fall into temptation”. He added that he has been following Wesley throughout the World Cup, and was happy that he was playing in the final. He wished him best of luck, but insisted that none of the offers for him or any other player have been worthy. He stated that he will have to wait for something to transpire.

Staying in the Premier League, new Liverpool manager, Roy Hodgson fancies Wigan left back Maynor Figueroa, if he is able to sell his current left back, Emiliano Insua, for 5 Million pounds. Fiorentina are hopeful for signing the Liverpool left back, and funds from the deal would be invested directly to secure the Wigan left back.

News about the Liverpool squad is not over, as Barcelona is expected to drop interests for Torres and Macherano, as they have liquidity issues. They have already sold Dmytro Chygrynskiy to improve their financial positions, as the club has failed to pay previous month salaries to the players.

Javier Mascherano is still the hot topic in the rumour mill, with Champions League champions Inter Milan showing interest in the Argentinean. This may be true as his Manager Marco Piccioli claims that Mascherano and his former manager Rafa Benitez have a great relationship with each other. He was aware of the fact that that may not be enough, but has to wait. He expects something to pop up towards the end of the transfer window.

Arsenal has also been dragged into the rumour market, with Manchester City winger Shaun Wright Phillips being their target. They aim to offer 6 million pounds for the English international, but the wage demands for the player seem to be the only hurdle in their way. Arsenal has officially signed defender Laurent Koscielny, which has stirred rumours that Gael Clichy may be on his way out. Juventus is reportedly the favourites to land his signature, and Arsenal may well sell the player as Kieran Gibbs has recovered from his injury.

The other Premier League clubs also have their part in the rumour mill starting with Wolves wanting Chelsea’s Michael Mancienne. Newly promoted Newcastle want Jonathan de Guzman and Dan Gosling is all set to leave Everton.

Doncaster has signed Sheffield United hit man Billy Sharp for 1.1 million pounds, which is a club record. Joe Ledley is all set to join Celtic, giving his current club Cardiff a lot to think about. Hartson wants to manage Swansea, while David James is expected to end his contract at Portsmouth and move elsewhere.

Celtic may also capture Hull City midfielder Jimmy Bullard as he was seen in Glasgow for possible talks. Sunderland want to sign Asamoah Gyan to their squad, making it 3 Ghanaians in their squad. Marseille want to sign Arsenal Midfielder Samir Nasri, who has not grown much under Arsene Wenger. Tottenham still fancy Eidur Gudjohnson, and want to sign him on loan from Monaco.
