Football News: Beckham may make a move to EPL, Krul gets a 4 year deal at Newcastle & Jovanovic says he rejected Real Madrid for Liverpool
Former England captain David Beckham may be planning a big surprise move to the Premier League side West Ham United. A British Newspaper, ‘The Sun’, has said that the winger is pondering over the move and may yet be back in the English game.
David Beckham is believed to be in talks with the London based club, and is considering ending his stint in Major League Soccer (MLS) and resuming his career in English football.
West Ham United’s co-owner David Gold said that there have been some discussions with Beckham’s manager, and the move may still be a possibility.
He said that Beckham has been involved in various projects currently, and once he has time to sit down and discuss the matters further, only then anything can be said for sure. Gold added that Beckham has shown interest in coming to Upton Park and ending his career in London, which actually is his home-town.
The former Manchester United player suffered an Achilles injury just before the 2010 World Cup, and missed the chance of being part of the England squad. He is currently under contract with the Major League Side LA Galaxy, but is still out with injury and has not joined the team for the new season.
In other news, Newcastle United, after making their way back to the Premier League, have offered their goalkeeper Tim Krul a new 4 year contract. The Netherlands’ keeper showed great potential for the Toons in their only season in the championship. The 22 year old had long been number 3 at the club behind Shay Given and Steve Harper. Given left the club and moved to Manchester City early 2009. Given had been with The Magpies for a long time, and was an absolute legend with the Newcastle faithfuls. If that was not enough, then there was the task of outmuscling the understudy of Given, Steve Harper, who has been a loyal Newcastle man and has stayed with the club despite being number 2 for many years. Harper, who had finally got his chance in the first team, did not make things any easy for Krul, and made sure that he did not get much game-time. Krul, however, did get some games due to an injury to Harper. Newcastle United’s team management said that they liked what they saw and would like to keep the Dutchman at the club.
Krul has also spent loan spells at Carlisle United (2008-2009) and Falkirk (2007-2008), and both clubs rated him quite highly.
Liverpool have made a few significant signings this season, and Milan Jovanovic is one of the new names at Anfield this season. Jovanovic said that he also had a lucrative offer from Real Madrid, but he preferred to come to Anfield.
Jovanovic was a part of the Serbian team in the World Cup, and moved to Liverpool on a free transfer following his end of contract at Standard Liège.
Real Madrid reportedly were also interested in his services, and did offer him a contract for one year; it is said that the deal also had the option of the Serbian being able to extend it for two more years.
Jovanovic said that most of the people he talks to ask him why he said no to Real. The Serbian said that the answer is actually very simple. He said that when he was playing in Belgium, he was one of the big names, but had he moved to Real Madrid he would just have been a face in the crowd. He added that a chance to have a longer contract was also a reason for him to join Liverpool.
Jovanovic said that he is really happy to be at Liverpool, and he believes strongly in the club. He added that Hodgson is a clever manager and would take the team to great heights.
