Football Breaking News: Chelsea looks for Frank Arnesen’s replacement
Chelsea’s sporting director, Frank Arnesen announced last week that he is going to leave the club once the contract expires, at the end of the season. His resignation increased speculations about the problems at the bridge, with Ray Wilkins already showed the exit door. Arnesen declared that he is going to leave at the end of the season after six great years, at Chelsea football club.
Arnesen came to the club in 2005 from Spurs, in a then, highly controversial move. His appointment was made against the will of then manager, Jose Mourinho and led to a rift between Jose and Roman Abramovich, which later led to Mourinho leaving the club with mutual consent. Arnesen in his time at Chelsea was highly influential in bringing the likes of John Obi Mikel and Soloman Kalou, to Chelsea. He, in his time at PSV Eindhoven, has been credited to discovering talents like Jaap Stam and Ruud Van Nistelrooy and has earned respect all around the world for his excellent scouting and talent udgment.
Chelsea is now looking for the replacement for Arnesen and is looking to land Birmingham City’s head of recruitment, Paul Montgomery, as the new director. Montgomery has emerged as a big name and is widely considered the best recruit in English football, ever since his joining of the Birmingham based club in 2008.
Montgomery has got contacts both in and outside England. This can be seen from the fact that Birmingham has landed players like Alexander Hleb and Nicola Zigic. Chelsea is now looking to add him to the rank.
Several other names have been thrown in to replace Arnesen, as the new sporting director at the club which includes the likes of Txiki Beguiristain. Beguiristain is a former technical secretary, at the Nou Camp and is one of the wanted men at the bridge. But even if Chelsea is to get Beguiristain, they would also want Montgomery to boost their reserves and academy setup. Montgomery would be a perfect replacement for Arnesen, as both have got a great eye for talent. A former scout with West Ham United and Glasgow rangers, he is a highly respected man in the confident and was also offered the position with Catalangiants, FC Barcelona. Montgomery at his time at West Ham recommended the then unknown, Didier Drogba, to the club but the transfer never happened.
