Football News: FA Charges Moyes for Improper Conduct
David Moyes, the Everton manager and his first assistant Steve Round have been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association in their game over the weekend against Manchester United.
Everton were trailing by three goals to one until full time, it was only after full time that the Toffees scored two more goals to manage a 3-3 draw with Manchester United.
Moyes was furious that the referee blew the whistle just as Everton were on their way to scoring a fourth goal which would have won them the game.
The Scot said in the post match conference, “The two goals were scored after 90 minutes and they'd put up three minutes of extra time. He didn't get his time right because there was more time to add on for the goals and he played three minutes 30 seconds. They had the corner kick and we had a great counter-attack and he blew up with the ball 25 yards from their goal.”
He added, "It is a spectator sport with people coming to watch the game and not for him to be the main man and the one who wants to be seen making the decisions. That was a terrible decision in my book."
In the end Edwin van der Sar saved Phil Jagielka’s shot, which would have resulted in one of the best comebacks in the Premier League against a top flight side, but Moyes was convinced that it was the referees timing with the whistle that had denied his side a win at Goodison Park.
Moyes and Round both rushed to the pitch after the final whistle to confront the match officials about their decision. Their behavior was considered inappropriate and improper and it was obvious the FA would take action against the two.
The FA were understandably not impressed with his conduct towards the officials and confirmed that he would face the consequences of his antics according to the new disciplinary procedures.
The official FA statement said, “Everton manager David Moyes and assistant manager Steve Round have both been charged with improper conduct. The charges relate to Moyes' and Round's conduct towards referee Martin Atkinson on the pitch following the final whistle at Everton's home match against Manchester United on September 11.”
“Under the FA's new fast-track procedures, Moyes and Round have until Thursday, September 16, to respond to the charges and have both been offered a standard sanction of an £8,000 fine should they accept the charge. If either party denies the charge, the case will be heard by a regulatory commission within 10 working days.”
The FA have another important decision on their hands, Bolton have handed in an appeal against Gary Cahill’s red card in the defeat against Arsenal on Saturday. The defender received a straight red which means he will miss Bolton’s next three fixtures.
The Bolton centre back was sent off after the hour mark in the 64th minute after a dangerous challenge on Maroune Chamakh, the new Arsenal striker. Owen Coyle, the Bolton boss was furious following the referee Stuart Attwell’s decision to show a straight red to Cahill. Cahill is a promising young player who recently made his debut for the national team against Bulgaria this month.
Coyle said in a statement, “My initial reaction to the foul was a free-kick or a yellow card, but it didn't seem to me a red.”
