Football News: Gera calls for panic control as Rummenigge remains adamant on retaining Schweinsteiger
After losing 4-1 to Manchester City at Craven Cottage, Gera has now come out and called on his team mates to maintain discipline as Carlos Tevez and Co. routed the Fulham defence by putting four goals past the London club’s despairing defence.
Gera has come out and said, "I am sure we will not panic. If we do that it is not good for the team. We need to stick together. The league is so tight at the moment, we still have time to pick points up and get out of this zone. I am confident. We know we
can do much better and we will do much better in the next two games."
Fulham lost to City this weekend at Craven Cottage however they have also lost 4 matches in the season of 2010-2011, which is the same number of matches as Chelsea and Arsenal. All three London clubs have now lost four matches each nonetheless Fulham still
remain out of the top four of the English Premier League. Fulham’s downfall has come about due to the fact that their striker Bobby Zamora suffered a lengthy injury at the start of their league campaign.
Gera spoke after City’s win at the Craven Cottage as he said, "I don't know why we have struggled so badly. It is difficult to understand because we have chances. We are creating them but have not scored enough. We need to work on that, then hopefully, this
bad luck will turn round." Fulham’s best performance of the season thus far came against Manchester United as they drew against the Red Devils two all at the Cottage.
However, at their last game in the English Premier League, Fulham were totally devoid of any creativity and cohesion; an issue that worked in favour of the visiting club, Manchester City. Gera added, "I don't know why we started so flat. The preparation
has been exactly the same this season but sometimes it happens. We need to forget this game and do better in the next one, which is going to be very important. We must pick up some points to get out of the relegation zone."
In other news, Bayern Munich’s executive chairman, Rummenigge has come out and issued another club statement that is intended to address Bastian Schweinsteiger’s current situation with the German giants. Munich’s midfielder whose contract runs out in 2012
has been a target for Manchester United and Chelsea after the German national came out and revealed his desire to play in the English Premier League.
Bastian’s comments about the English Premier League were accompanied by his manager’s advice to the German giants that they should cash in Schweinsteiger before the player decides to part ways with the club using the Bosman ruling.
Rummenigge said, “I have always said that we really want to extend Bastian's contract and that is what we are working on. He is one of our most important players, if not the most important one. But if (a contract extension) does not happen then he will certainly
stay at Bayern until June 30, 2012. He will not leave before that date." The ex-German national team player concluded by speaking on Louis Van Gaal’s advice that Bayern should sell Schweinsteiger as he said, "He cannot decide that. In this case I will have
the final say."
