Football News: How will Tottenham Hotspur handle Rafael van der Vaart, Younes Kaboul injury setback?
Tottenham Hotspur made a great comeback yesterday at White Hart Lane and defeated Liverpool through an injury-time goal by Aaron Lennon. This was the Spurs’ third consecutive win in the league. The Londoners have moved up to 5th
place after their win over the team from Merseyside and are now a mere point behind Manchester City. The Arab backed club could only manage a draw against Stoke city at the Britannia stadium.
Spurs’ win over Liverpool turned sour a bit after news that midfielder Rafael van der Vaart could miss up to a month on the sidelines following his hamstring injury that forced him to leave the field after featuring for only twelve
minutes on the field yesterday. Needless to say, it is a huge setback for the Spurs who are reputed to be serious challengers for the coveted 4th spot this season as well.
However, their injury woes are far from over as the North London club also find Younes Kaboul on the treatment table owing to a hip injury (also against Liverpool). The club now waits for the time for which both the players will
be out.
The news was confirmed by Harry Redknapp, who revealed:
“Rafa felt it tear, so that doesn't look too good, Younes felt he might have torn a muscle in his hip. He felt that go.”
The manager further added: “It's so disappointing for Rafa. He keeps picking up little injuries. It's probably because he's missed a pre-season or was away at the World Cup and not played many games. When your fitness is a bit
low it's hard to get up to speed. He keeps getting little nicks."
With the Spurs losing arguably their best player this season along with Gareth Bale and the Christmas period fast approaching, it is a worrying sign indeed. Van Der Vaart has been a revelation not only for Harry Redknapp’s team
but also for the general prospects of the Premier League. It was also a bargain buy seeing how well the World Cup finalist has adjusted to life in England since his move from Real Madrid on the final day, just a mere two hours before the end of the transfer
window for only £8 million.
In his stint in the Premier League, Van Der Vaart has scored a total of 6 goals in the 11 games that he has started in. He has also been the Premier League’s player of the month for the month of October; a huge honour for someone
virtually making a debut in the region.
While the Holland international’s prospects for the future look bright barring the injury, the Spurs’ next few games are tough; with most notably, a home game against Chelsea on the 12th of December.
Owing to the fact that the reported 1 month layoff holds true, Van der Vaart is effectively missing the games against Manchester United and Arsenal during the Christmas period – Surely, the Spurs will be desperate to have their
star player back.
We, at bettor.com, wish him a speedy recovery.
