Football News: Juventus still looking forward to sign Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko
The General Director of Juventus Giuseppe Marotta has taken up the job to decide the fate of the talent that arrives in the club and it surely can be confirmed that this is not in his job description.
He has now declared that the Old Lady still desires to acquire Wolfsburg prized striker Edin Dzeko who was the star to watch in Bundesliga last season when he produced 22 goals and became the top scorer of the tournament (German domestic league).
The 24 year old's performance level has been rising even before this and in the season of 2008-09 he was hailed as the German Footballer of the Year. Since then his world wide recognition has been on the climb exponentially and he has been offered contracts
with many other clubs.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international joined Wolfsburg in 2007 and since then he has scored an astonishing 79 goals in 125 matches. This season he is again in top notch form, having scored 5 goals in 5 matches. For Bosnia and Herzegovina the forward who
can also play as a winger has played in 29 fixtures and scored 16 goals in them.
Nonetheless the rest of the team performance needs to improve as last season the German club finished at the 8th place in Bundesliga and right now the intensified competition in the German league has resulted the club to be at the 8th
position again though the teams around them have shuffled their positions a lot.
They have played 7 matches and won 3 of them while losing 3 and drawing 1. Similarly they have made 10 points but it is said that they will do much better this season and finish at least in the top 7.
Juventus on the other hand is a club with great heritage and quality, having been one of the constant features in Serie A but their performance has been under par recently. The deterioration in their performance has led them to be at the 7th place
in the Italian League and it now seems that they need a massive change for rejuvenation to take place.
Earlier in the summers it was rumoured that the player will be making a move to one of the major footballing powers in the world with offers flying in from all over the place. One of the clubs that secretly wanted to hire him were the Spanish giants Real
Madrid led by Jose Mourinho.
At the moment Dzeko has a binding contract with Wolfsburg that will make his stay with the club till 2013. Speculation was rife in the summers that Dzeko will be amaking a move to Turin, Italy to play for Juventus.
Dzeko has stated that his club had broken it’s promise when they denied him a chance to leave for Juventus in the summer transfer window.
Juventus on the other hand eventually signed in the forward Milos Krasic which was their only allowed non-EU signing for the summers. Juventus’ GD Marotta has however stated that he foresees Dzeko playing Juventus, “Dzeko is not a dream that has passed -
it's one that has been postponed.”
Marotta has recently taken an unlikely responsibility to make statements on the future transfers of Juventux players. He has also denied that Manchester United are planning a bid for their star goal keeper Gianluigi Buffon.
Buffon was earlier declared injured at the FIFA 2010 World Cup when the world’s most expensive player injured his back and had to be scheduled for an operation. He will now make a comeback in February therefore the January transfer window would be the perfect
opportunity to acquire him.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been hunting for a good goal keeper for the Red Devils for some time now but the situation has become much worst now as it is expected their current glove man Edwin van der Sar will retire either at the end of this season or in the
next.
Marotta has stated on the issue, “I deny any negotiation with United. Buffon is a Juventus player.”
