Football News: Liverpool to dip into the January transfer window as France on the long road back
Liverpool are set to do some business in the January transfer window as their director of football strategy Damien Comolli has recently suggested that New England Sports Ventures are set to finance Liverpool’s winter transfer window budget.
NESV lately gained control of the Red after a lengthy court battle with the ex-owners of the club, George Gillet and Tom Hicks.
Comolli who himself is a recent arrival at Anfield has been brought in by the new club owners to oversee the Merseyside Red’s transfer strategy. Liverpool’s manager, Roy Hodgson has also confirmed that the club is interested in buying
players in January. However, Liverpool will only look to buy if the price is right in the upcoming winter transfer window which opens on 1st of January, 2011.
Comolli recently spoke to the media as he said, "We have a pretty good idea of what we would like to do and we have identified targets. If there's a possibility of us getting a world-class player, we will have the backing. John and Tom
want to win - and you win with top players. If it can be done in January, great. If it can't because we feel it is the wrong market or players are overpriced, then we will wait. I’m not going to say we won't do anything in January because that is not the idea
at the moment. We will do what is right for the long term. What is right for the long term can be something we do in January."
Liverpool lost their last league match against Stoke City by two goals to nil and before that they drew against Wigan Athletic. However, before Wigan, Liverpool pulled a surprise result as they defeated Chelsea by two goals to nil at Anfield,
a match that had given the supporters a lot of hope. Comolli added to his remarks by stating, "The club is not in a bad state. We've had some great results. It's not in ruins. Everything is there to be successful. We have to win and bring back trophies. For
a club this size, it's not about top six or top four - we must win everything that's winnable.”
In other news, Florent Malouda, the Chelsea and French national team winger is optimistic before his team’s friendly encounter against England at the Wembley stadium. Malouda said, “We had bad times recently but right now we are in a good
position. We have to appreciate that. But we know it is not enough for us to be a big nation again. We are not in the top 10. Our aim is to get back there and then maybe win something. But we are a long way from that position at the moment."
France were totally abysmal at the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where they exited the tournament at the group stages after failing to win even a single match. The Chelsea man said, "That is what public confidence depends on. Even
when you have a really big disappointment, if you win again the fans get behind you. It is not true to say the fans don't like their national team. They just want you to win. Of course there are disappointments sometimes, but sport is like that."
