Football News: Mancini says Johnson heeding his advice, Gascoigne’s recovery hampered by media attention
Recent reports have suggested that Adam Johnson has become disillusioned with life at Manchester City as despite his impressive performances for the Blues, he has not been able to force his way into the club’s first team side. The young
winger has thus been falling out of favour with the English national team manager as well due to his lack of football at the Eastlands.
City signed Johnson for eight million pounds in the last January transfer window from Middlesbrough. Johnson was an unknown quantity before he was given the chance to shine at Manchester City. Roberto Mancini commented on the winger’s
situation as he said, "He is listening to me. Why not? I repeat what I said one week ago, one month ago and when we bought him. Adam has everything needed to do his job very well. But he must play well and work hard. He is a good player, but he is young and
can improve a lot. Every manager can say these things. When you play football you must have a good private life. You must work very hard if you want to become a strong player."
Mancini added to his remarks by saying, "We are in fourth position, three points behind United, but we must check at the end of the season. At the end of the season I think we will get into the Champions League and probably we will win
something. This is my opinion because I believe we have improved a lot."
Speaking on how managers can get dismissed easily from their posts, Mancini said, "This is our life, a manager's life. Today you can be here. Tomorrow you can be at another club. If a manager does not accept this, he doesn't do his job.
The world is full of football managers."
Mancini is currently under a lot of pressure to give in a fiercer demonstration of attacking football as his club which was predicted to be a contender for the title race is far from it. The club’s owner have taken notice of this therefore
the broth is bound to be stirred with results coming in soon.
In other news, Paul Spanjar, the treatment director at The Providence Projects has come out and asked the media to take the spotlight away from Paul Gascoigne’s recovery process. Paul who was admitted to rehab after drinking problems lately
has been undergoing a strict therapy program. Gascoigne, one of the brightest talents to come out of Newcastle wasted his football career due to his drinking habits, something that the Englishman has come to regret later on.
Spanjar said in his statement to the press, "This is as much of a plea as it is a statement. This damaging interference in Paul's ongoing rehabilitation could have a serious negative effect on Paul's whole future. Paul is working incredibly
hard in treatment, focusing purely on the critical battle against his illness. Unfortunately, he is constantly the subject of harassment by the press and photographers. We arrive in treatment each morning with photographers camped outside, taking pictures
of both Paul as well as other current patients.”
He added, "When being driven by the counseling team to various appointments, he is being followed and harassed contributing to his current anxieties. Due to the nature of this treatment, aspects of the programme are conducted within the
community and constant unwarranted attention from the press could be a potential cause of harm to both Paul and the other patients, who are concerned that their anonymity is being severely compromised."
Recently man footballing legends linking to the English Premier League have come out and stated the harms of drinking and the way it destroys a footballing career. Notable names on the list are players like Rio Ferdinand and Sir Alex Ferguson.
