Manchester City’s striker Mario Balotelli who has often been regarded as the future of football in Italy Manchester City, has gone on to claim another award to add in his trophy cabinet. The player has gone on to win Tuttosport's Golden Boy trophy, which
is awarded to the best player under age of twenty one.
One of the other strong favourites to land the award was Arsenal's midfield wizard, Jack Wilshere. However after receiving the award Balotelli went on to state that he was not aware of who Wilshere was. This is despite the fact that Wilshere managed to finish
as the second place runner up, after only being in the lime-light for a couple of months compared to the years that Balotelli has seen.
After receiving the award the player is reported to have said: "I am delighted to receive this award"
"Who should have won this award but me? Two years ago I finished sixth and a year ago fourth. It was finally my turn.
"I don't know who Wilshere is but the next time I play against Arsenal I will keep a close eye on him.
"Perhaps I can show him (Wilshere) the Golden Boy trophy and remind him that I won it!"
According to experts, these are rather bold claims by the Italian, who happens to have let his ego get the better of his career in the past. Balotelli, despite having won the award, stuck to his cockiness and as a result instead of being cheered on, after
receiving his award, was rather gazed upon in astonishment by the crowd.
This is mainly because of the smugness Balotelli exhudes. Despite being as good as he is; he feels like he is the best player in the world, which by all means, he is not.
Nonetheless this award would have normally spurs on a young player to go on and perform even better in the future. However the recipient of the award being Balotelli, it is unclear as to how winning the prize will affect his career down the road.
