Sir Trevor Brooking has come out and expressed his thoughts on the rumours that Inter Milan are lining up the current English national team manager, Fabio Capello to take over at San Siro sooner rather than later as Rafael Benitez and Massimo Moratti’s relationship
reaches a new low.
A lot has been said about Rafael Benitez in the Italian press as his comments which signalled at the lack of support he was receiving from the club have been received quite coldly. Not only that, his ultimatum to either back him or sack him has been seen
as a final nail in the coffin of his career as Inter Milan’s first team manager.
Rafael Benitez took over at Inter Milan earlier on in the year during the summer break after he was sacked by Liverpool from his post as the club’s manager. During his time with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, Rafael Benitez failed to take the team to the hallowed English Premier
League trophy.
The closest Benitez’s men finished to the top of the English league table was in the 2008-09 season when Liverpool ended up as second best to the eventual champions and rivals, Manchester United.
Benitez was eventually dismissed from his post because Liverpool finished seventh in the 2009-10 season and thus missed the qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
With the storm brewing up in Italy, rumours suggest that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 won the UEFA Champions League, the Scudetto
and the Coppa Italia.
With Benitez at the helm, Inter have qualified for the round of sixteen of the UEFA Champions League as the second placed team in their group. Inter now face Bayern Munich in the round of sixteen as per the UEFA draw which took place on 17 December 2010.
Other managers who are in contention for the job at Inter Milan are Luciano Spalletti and Leonardo. Luciano Spalletti who is currently in-charge of the Russian club side, Zenit Saint Petersburg previously managed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 whereas Leonardo was recently ousted
from his job at AC Milan as the club’s manager due to differences with Silvio Berlusconi.
It has already been highlighted in the British media that the English Football Association will be more than happy to part ways with Capello whose time with the English national team has hardly been satisfactory.
If the F.A were to fire Capello then according to the agreement between Capello’s representatives and the Football Association, the latter will have to pay around six million pounds in compensation payments to the former Real Madrid man.
Sir Trevor expressed his thoughts to the media as he said, “If you are in this role, you get speculation about that all the time. I don't know if anything has officially happened as far as Benitez is concerned but from our point of view, Fabio is contracted
here until 2012.”
He added, "He is doing our (English national team) qualifying campaign and hopefully we will have a chance to try and have a good tournament in 2012. Until we know otherwise, that is how we will go on."
F.A has previously hinted that if Capello was to part ways with the English national team, they will opt for an English manager; names such as Harry Redknapp and Martin O’Neill have been put forward as possible contenders for Capello’s throne.
Brooking confirmed this as he further said, "We always said we would like to get towards having an English manager of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 team. Longer term, it sends out the right message. But no one knows who the next England coach will be. When the vacancy comes
up, who will be locked into contracts? How much will it cost to get them out? There are a whole range of issues."
The English national team is on a break right now as they play their next competitive fixture in the 2011 calendar year. It has been a tough 2010 for the three lions who were knocked out of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757 at the round of sixteen
stage by rivals http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904.
