Football Player Profile: Spain's Cesc Fabregas, to make history with this world cup 2010
Cesc Fabregas is one player that is among the most hype creators in the ending of the English Premier League and La Liga. He shadowed all other signings, bids and offers from clubs and made other players look aloof in front of him.
It makes one wonder that how did he manage to achieve such importance and fame around the world. Let’s take you back to the beginning. Fabregas is a Spanish player that plays for Arsenal Football Club right now. How he got there is quite a controversy. As a young man, Fabregas started his footballing passion with Barcelona Football Club but in September of 2003, he signed himself to Arsenal.
The reason he later revealed was that at Barcelona he was quite young in comparison to other players and also there he was constantly override by the star studded team like Xavi and Iniesta. Therefore, he decided to switch his alliance to the Gunners who were on the rise to the ‘Invincible Ones’ back then.
Fabregas was born in Catalonia Spain, his prodigious skills were immediately picked up at Camp Nou, and later he made it to the Under 17 Spanish team. He went on to break several of the club's records, earning a reputation as one of the best young players for his position of his generation.
In the starting, Fabregas played as a defensive midfielder but still he managed 30 goals in a season. Seeing his talent, Arsene Wenger immediately signed him before Barcelona could even hand out the young star a professional contract.
Ultimately, the 16 year old Fabregas went to the North Londoners at a deal of 2.25 million pounds and became the youngest player to make a debut for the Gunners in a Legue match. He further expanded his history making by becoming the youngest scorer for Arsenal in the next match.
From there was no coming back for Fabregas. He made it to the starting line-up when he impressed the coach with a 3-1 victory over rivals Manchester United. He also showed aptitude for leadership and the captain Patrick Vieira helped him achieve that.
With a performance like that, the Gunners started the season demolishing their opponents. The star still had to make it to make his permanent place in the squad so he was a star substitute in the proceeding season.
Fabregas came in and out of the season and in the end, Arsenal came second to the winners Chelsea, still they ended with FA Cup on their trophy case when they beat Manchester United on penalties.
At the end of that summer, Patrick Vieira got transferred to Juventus, which left the place open for Fabregas, and he wasn’t going to waste that opportunity. Though his performance was pretty good against the teams in the English Premier League, Arsenal’s campaign with him in the starting line-up was quite unpredictable, as they lost to mediocre teams. It seemed that though Fabregas was ready, the rest of the team wasn’t for the change.
The rest of the season was pretty erratic for Fabregas, still he shone at the Champions League when he met his counterpart at Vieira at the encounter against Juventus. Then they went into the final where he met his former club Barcelona and after a tough battle, the Gunners were defeated 2-1.
After the 2005 FA Cup the club hasn’t has chance to add anything to its trophy case, still they finished 3rd in the last season of 2009-2010. Fabregas has always been the star and has taken the club to new heights with his astounding performance. Before the World Cup, there have been a lot of rumours regarding Fabregas returning to its former club Barcelona but their coach Arsene Wenger doesn’t want that to happen.
In case the issue is even put on table, the North Londoners are demanding no less than 60 million pounds. Barcelona have put up an official bid of 30 million pounds and willing to go up till 40 but there is resistance from the manager. He actually is the key component of the Arsenal midfield and now that he is the skipper of the squad, releasing him would be very hard for Wenger.
Fabregas was also included in this year’s World Cup squad and though his only entry in the tournament came as a substitute and in the second half, he will soon replace the legendary Xavi and become shot caller of Spain.
Fabregas himself though has declared that after the World Cup has ended, he will be returning to Barcelona but after all the players bought at Camp Nou it doesn’t seem likely that there will be any progress in the Fabregas saga.
Although Fabregas is playing as a substitute this world cup, he has started on the bench in all four of Spain’s matches to date. However, he has a very positive attitude, claiming that players have to stay motivated without knowing if they’re going to play or not. Fabregas is quite confident that Spain can make history again with the current squad.
