Football - Possible Winter Transfers of 20 Players (Part 7)
Moreover, another English side, Fulham is also one of the favourites to sign Manchester City goalie, Shay, given his association with Fulham’s new boss Mark Hughes. In addition to this, Fulham’s current number one shot-stopper, Mark Schwarzer is in the final
year of his contract and has already informed the club that he desires to move on, next summer.
Hughes would now surely be looking for a world class replacement in order to strengthen his squad. Given’s arrival at Craven Cottage might actually suit him also because expectations from him there would be low as compared to any other big clubs.
Meanwhile, English giants, Liverpool could also join the race to sign the want away keeper of Manchester City but they are in high debt and there is a real chance that the Merseyside Club will be asset stripped of its best talent over the next 12 months.
The Spanish pair of Liverpool, Fernando Torres and Pepe Reina, has contracts with ‘The Reds’ which state that they would be sold next year if the club’s financial difficulties continued.
So, if the Reds decide to sell the Spanish duo then they are expected to generate some £60 to £80 million. The Spanish Giants, Real Madrid would be more than interested in both and rumour has it that the Gunners have already put in a cheeky £20 million bid
for Liverpool’s goalie in July. If Merseyside club eventually sells Pepe then buying Manchester City’s Shay for some less money would be a magnificent bit of business. There is not really much amongst this goalkeeping pair as both are world class shot- stoppers.
It wouldn’t be a strange thing to see Manchester City’s goalkeeper, Shay Given featuring for their rivals, either Manchester United or Tottenham in the next 12 to 18 months. Manchester United’s veteran goal keeper, Edwin Van Der SAR is about to retire and
the Red Devils would surely be looking for his replacement. From the past experience of their legendary boss, Sir Alex Ferguson; it is quite possible that he would go on to sign Given.
As far as Spurs are concerned, Shay is one of the favourites of their boss, Harry Redknap. The Irish goalkeeper has everything that Harry loves in a player. And most importantly, Shay would be inexpensive. Undoubtedly, Tottenham’s current keeper Gomes has
showed an impressive performance. But, he is injury prone and that creates some chances of Shay joining Redknap’s squad. Shay would fit the bill perfectly at any club in English Premier League while quite a few in Europe also.
There is also some interest for him from Italy as Juventus and AS Roma are both said to be concerned in drawing Given to Serie A.
Emmanuel Adebayor (Present Club - Manchester City):
Last season, the Togo International, Emmanuel Adebayor was signed from Arsenal by Manchester City when Mark Hughes was in charge. The African striker has not endured a great period during his time with his new coach, Robert Mancini at East Lands. The Togolese
striker has been lacklustre in some of the games, and has warmed the bench for long periods.
The former Arsenal striker has publicly voiced his concern on his lack of first team football at East Lands as he was not given central forward role and Carlos Tevez was preferred over him. In addition to that, Manchester city's new boss Roberto Mancini
and Emmanuel Adebayor have also had a succession of bust-ups most recently surrounding an injury to the African striker with the Italian accusing the striker of faking, resulting in Adebayor having to prove to the Italian with documentation from a scan that
he was injured.
