Football: Premier League Aston Villa Captain hopes for new faces, Insua leaves Liverpool
Stiliyan Petrov, Aston Villa Captain, expects his club to add new faces to the side, in order to solidify the squad, and compete with the big boys. The Manager, Martin O’ Neill however, is yet to sign a player, and has been quiet about proceedings at Villa. The only rumour that has surfaced regarding Aston Villa is James Milner leaving the club to join big money Manchester City.
But the Captain trusts his manager and the administrators of the club, and is not bothered about the lack of activity. He remains calm and insists that a signing may just be around the corner for Aston Villa. The manager is known for taking his time when he enters the transfer window every year, and is expected to sign players to bolster his squad this season.
"I don't think it's a problem because, as we all know, our boss will be doing everything in the last three or four days!", claimed the club’s captain. Petrov added that he was sure that both the manager and the chairman would be working their socks off to get new players into the squad. Stiliyan added that due to the great ambitions both of these men have for the club, he is confident that they will add some names to the side, to challenge the elite of the Premier League. He added that the manager wants to take the club above of what they finished last season, and that could only be done if new faces were added to the side.
Petrov was happy about the signings the side made last season, as the club added Dunne, Collins and Warnock, who all proved to be extremely talented and quality players. All of the new faces strengthened the squad, which led to Aston Villa finishing sixth in the league, above heavy weights Liverpool. The club captain therefore expected similar signings from the club, as all of the new signings made huge impacts on the team’s overall performances.
In other news, Liverpool defender Emiliano Insua is all set to join Italian side Fiorentina. The left back had a difficult season, as he became the first choice defender, after Aurelio was injured for the major part of the season. Insua was young and inexperienced, and it could be seen in his performances.
The defender was with the club in Switzerland for a pre-season training session, but left the camp on Saturday, and flew to Italy to discuss personal terms of his contract with Fiorentina.
Liverpool gave an official statement regarding Insua’s departure. According to a club spokesman, a fee has already been agreed for the left back with Fiorentina, and the player has now been allowed to talk to the Italians to discuss his personal agenda. The spokesman added that Insua has left the training camp at Switzerland, and would make a further comment about the situation when they think it appropriate. It is clear that following Insua’s departure, and the releasing of Aurelio, means that new manager Roy Hodgson would be looking for replacements on the left flank, and would want to sign a new left back as soon as possible.
The manager officially stated that a deal has been confirmed with Fiorentina. The manager thanked the player for his services and time at Liverpool, and wished Insua best of luck for his career. Hodgson expects the left back to join Fiorentina by next week.
Insua joined the Reds back in 2007 under Rafael Benitez from his home club Boca Juniors. The Argentinean has played 62 matches for Liverpool. Liverpool is already under a lot of pressure as many of its key players are expected to leave the club, following their humiliating 7th spot finish in the league. Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrad and Javier Mascherano are just some of the players who have been linked for a move away from Liverpool this season.
