Football Press Release: Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho accepts defeat but reckons it meaningless
The embarrassing away loss against Levante, who Mourinho and Co. hammered 8-nil in the first leg of the tournament, is being deemed of no importance by the Portuguese Real Madrid manager.
At the home of Levante, Mourinho introduced an unconventional team that took a beating by 2 goals to nil. Nonetheless, on aggregate, Los Blancos did go ahead to the next stage of the match.
In the press release afterwards Mourinho stated he was calm despite the loss, as he knew it did not reflect truly on how the team was performing this season. He also explained that the defeat meant nothing as in the long run, it
will symbolize just a match of the past.
The head of Santiago Bernabeu stated that going into the match he knew he could afford to lose as his team was already 8 goals ahead. He clarified that is exactly why he took advantage of the situation and experimented in the match
by adding new strategies and tactics. Mourinho also tested new players in the match to evaluate how they could perform under pressure in the future.
The self proclaimed ‘Chosen One’ informed that the latest performance in no way described what lay ahead for Real Madrid and that indeed will be proven in the upcoming fixtures.
In the post match press release the manager stated, “I cannot be critical of my team. It was always going to be a tough match, but we did not pay the necessary attention to it.”
He also said that he had no reason to be extra harsh with his team as he knew they were focused in the encounter and were optimistic of bouncing back until the end, “It is always difficult to motivate oneself, but I think you cannot
criticize because the players had a positive attitude.”
On his pre-match expectations Mourinho commented, “It looked like it would be a scoreless draw, but the victory is a prize for Levante. They fought hard and earned their win. Now, we are set to take on Atletico Madrid, so we have
a difficult task ahead.”
Mourinho also took this opportunity to analyse the show Kaka provided late when he was called in. Mourinho extolled the player and stated he was hopeful of a full comeback from the legend, “Kaka has been getting more time on the
pitch and this gives us confidence. The positive thing is that he has no problems with his knee after each match.”
He continued, “He will surely play in the next match (against Villarreal). The Bernabeu crowd will see once again why he is one of the best players.”
He concluded by saying that though they had lost against Levante, he and his men had learnt a lot and knew that the upcoming fixtures were to be taken much more seriously, “Today may have been a match we could afford to lose, but
our next one we cannot.”
