Football: Roy Hodgson works hard to keep Star Players
Liverpool’s new manager, Roy Hodgson has admitted that the club is working exceptionally hard to keep some of their disenchanted players from moving away.
There has been a lot of heated talk and rumours about Fernando Torres, the star striker and Steven Gerrard, the captain, and, Javier Mascherano, the mid fielder, ever since they had a disappointing defeat under the regime of Rafael Benitez.
With Barcelona players leaving in early June the rumours have intensified about the future of numerous players. Even though Hodgson has told Gerrard that he wants him to stay on. He has not met Mascherano or Torres, who are at the moment on leave after the World Cup win.
Speculations continue to wander about and multiply. Mascherano is being linked with Inter Milan or to Barcelona, who have been interested in him for the last twelve months, and, Chelsea is bidding for Torres.
Still, ever since Hodgson came on, in early July he has kept on insisting that he wants to keep his star players and that they are a vital part of the team that he does not want to lose.
Hodgson said that they are working hard on keeping their players in the team; he said that the players who everyone loves in our team, he wants to make sure that they stay on and keep playing for the same team.
He went on further to say that the board is working very exuberantly on it. He said that definitely some players are a bit down and disheartened because of what happened last season but still he said that he is working hard to get back that excitement, that rush and that inner thing that made them the true stars that really are.
As reported, a list of names has been linked with moves to other teams. Hodgson is definitely trying hard to further strengthen the squad which did not play to its best last season and there is no doubt that the team under performed.
Roy Hodgson has kept it no secret that he wants to bring in new people but he has definitely dismissed the long list which has been rumoured to be cut. Hodgson is 62 years old and is a former football player and knows what he is doing.
He is trying to improve the team and said that he would not like to comment on anything until it is final and they have something concrete to announce.
He said that it’s funny and definitely amusing that his team is getting linked to so many players and some of names he has not even heard of ever.
He said that he has a lot of faith in the Liverpool fans and its general public. He said that they would be able to look through all the nonsense going about and would know what not to believe and would wait for an official announcement before jumping to conclusions.
Krisztian Nemeth is one of the players rumoured to be leaving the ranks this summer as the Italian Club Lecce is showing great interest in the star striker.
However, the twenty one year olds agent has told everyone that he spent the last season on loan and does not want to leave.
He continued by saying that Nemeth wanted to stay on as a Liverpool player and if Liverpool gives him a chance then he wants to be successful as a Liverpool player and not a player from any other team.
He is waiting on Hodgson and if Liverpool allows him to fight for the spot he will and if not then he would be happy to go to any other club for half a season and play on loan there.
