Football Special: Interview with Alberto Aquilani
An Italian media publication has recently interviewed new Juventus signing Alberto Aquilani. Aquilani is in on loan from Barclays Premier League outfit Liverpool FC and here is what he had to say...
How did you like the City of Turin?
Its beautiful...compared to Liverpool, I like the climate here. The city is beautiful and I didn’t expect it to be so, I am pleasantly surprised.
Juventus came close twice to your signature, the third went well, how was it?
I wasn’t expecting to leave the club. I talked to the coach and he wanted me at the club and I was also willing to remain at Anfield. However, once Juventus came knocking, It was difficult to say No! The negotiations were smooth and only took three days.
But two years ago ended differently?
Yes, there was interest from Juventus two seasons ago but Roma did not want to sell me then. I also wanted to stay. I wanted to end my career at Roma just like De Rossi and Totti. One year later i found myself in Liverpool. I realised my destiny was different
to theirs’. However, I have no regrets.
Can one imagine you in a Juventus Jersey few years from now?
Everything depends on this year. Right now I am here only on loan. I came here to redeem myself. I am only thinking about the next fixture, not where I’ll be in three years time.
In 2003, Moggi wanted to give Davids to Roma in part exchange transfer as was found in the papers. You were only19 then?
Moggi wanted De Rossi, D’Agostino and me. Not bad for a midfield! We were pleased as at that time it was good to see people believing in us. You can say that Moggi Understood football well. We were kids and read the news but we don’t know it was a
rumour or for real.
Did You Expect the Juventus Fans to welcome you so well?
I was pleased but the first few games didn’t go well. I am a player and the real happiness will come when I conquer the Pitch
If you were to write the screenplay of this season?
I don’t like to talk before anything happens. We must achieve results first. It’s time to win and not to proclaim. It is an important season for me and Juventus. We will have our difficult moments and we should address them. But there is every reason we
will do well. The title of the screen play could be the teen wolf.
It is no secret that Juventus wanted Alberto Aquilani as their midfield general. However Roma wanted to keep hold of their prodigy and refused to give up. Last year as the club drifted deeper in to financial crisis, the club was forced to sell the playmaker
to ease some of its debt. However with a reported 13.1 million pound future transfer clause in the Loan agreement, it looks Juventus have finally gotten their man.
