Football Special Report: 27th July – Birth of Football players
July the 27th is the birthday of 3 amazing football players who have contributed for football and their life is filled with “football moments” that they might never forget. Below are the three football players who were born on this day:
Alessandro Pistone (27th July, 1975) is a former Italian player who became famous when he was a part of Inter Milan in 1995 and 1996. He started his career with the Italian teams Solbiatese and Crevalcore; but these teams are now in the lowest tier of profession Italian football.
After playing an impressive season in Inter Milan during the 1996-1997 seasons, he was transferred to the English Premier League club Newcastle United for 4.3million Pounds. He managed to play really good during his early matches in the club but later he was sent out on loan to Venezia. After the Newcastle manager Ruud Gullit was sacked, the new manager, Bobby Robson brought him back from Venezia and sold him to Everton in the year 2000. He was a part of Everton for 7 years, where he enjoyed his peak years. Although he did not settle much during his first season with David Moyes. He played as a left-back for a long time and during the 2005-2006 season, he suffered a knee ligament injury which ended his season. He was released from Everton on 14th May 2007 and he joined Middlesbrough as a free agent. Allesandro Pistone won the Under-21 National Championship with the Italian National team at the 1996 Olympics.
Sidney Govou (27th July, 1979) is a French footballer who has played for two of the famous clubs, Olympique Lyonnais of France and Panathinaikos of Greece. He is also a part of the French National team at the moment. His main advantage is the great pace that he possesses. Even though he is actually a striker but he rarely plays on that position, as he is usually used as a winger.
In the last season, he was given the Captain’s arm band of Lyon after Juninho Pernambucano departed from the club. He lacked composure in front of the goal, while he was playing for the French side, so he was playing as a left winger for them team. On 2nd July 2010, he signed a contract with the Greek club Panathinaikos, for three years. In the Euro 2008 qualifiers, he scored 2 goals against the World Champions, Italy. In the 2006 FIFA World Cup, he was not selected at first but later he was taken by the team’s coach as a replacement to Djibril Cisse’, who was injured right before the competition.
Goran Pandev (27th July, 1983) is a Macedonian football player. He is currently playing in the Italian club, Inter Milan. His early career started in Belasica. In 2001, he was transferred to Inter Milan, where he did not stay for long and was sent on a loan to Spezia and Ancona. He was then transferred to Lazio, where he did not really work well but he played for 6 years. He scored 48 goals in 159 appearances. He is also considered as a key player of Macedonia. Right now, he is a part of the Italian club Inter Milan and he has already found the net thrice in 19 games. He has even played under Jose Mourinho, as he was used as a power sub during many matches that the Italian club played. His international career, however, has not been a total disappointment. He is known as the “key player” of his country, as he has scored 23 goals in only 53 appearances. At the moment he is Macedonia’s all time leading goal scorer, as he recently surpassed Gorgi Hristov, after he scored 2 goals against Spain. On 11th January 2009, he scored his first hat-trick in Serie A against Reggina.
