Football Special Report: Arsenal's Winger Debate: Walcott, Bendtner, Arshavin, Rosicky or Vela. (Part 1)
Last weekend, Arsenal defeated Manchester City at City of Manchester stadium by thrashing them three goals to nil and bagged three valuable points. It was a comprehensive performance from the Gunners as they moved to the second place on the table. Along
with that, Arsenal also managed to qualify for the quarter-finals of Carling Cup by defeating Newcastle United. Overall, it was quite a good week for the Gunners.
Arsene Wenger’s men have been affected by various injury worries, but the situation is better at present, with the return to fitness of many vital players. Recently, Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas returned after 4 weeks from hamstring injury. Along with him,
Theo Walcott and Nicklas Bendtner also recovered last week.
Samir Nasri was without a doubt one of the most inspiring player against Manchester City. Samir Nasri scored the first goal of the crucial fixture, and superbly assisted the third goal.
The 23-year-old French player has grown in stature, and has been brilliant in this season. Last season, Samir Nasri was criticised for not scoring too many goals, but at the end of the last season, he said he would like to emulate Robert Pires.
Samir Nasri has certainly improved a lot and is currently the top goal scorer of Arsenal with seven goals to his name.
Lately, the French midfielder has admitted that he prefers playing in the central attacking midfield role, but he has shown that with hard work, you can be successful irrespective of your favoured position. Samir Nasri is one of the integral members of Arsenal,
and is an assured starter in the team.
If Arsenal skipper, Fabregas is fit, then Samir Nasri will feature on one of the wings. This will leave only one of the wings vacant for the rest of Arsenal’s wingers. Theo Walcott, Andrei Arshavin, Thomas Rosicky, Nicklas Bendtner and Carlos Vela, all can
play on the wings, so amongst above five, Arsene Wenger have to decide who should start for Arsenal on regular basis.
It is tough to choose among these talented players as to who should start for Arsene Wenger on a regular basis as a first choice winger along with Samir Nasri.
Theo Walcott
The young English winger was impressive at the start of the season, when he had accumulated four goals in only three games, and was called up for English national team.
He sustained an injury on International duty and was sidelined for six weeks; however, Walcott has now recovered the injury and also scored twice against Newcastle United in a four nil win in Carling Cup.
Theo possesses exceptional pace and good finishing ability, which would trouble any defence. The English winger is very effective on counter-attacks, and it looks like he has improved on his game after he was not selected for England’s World Cup team.
Theo Walcott still needs to work on his crossing ability, but he certainly deserves a lot of playing time in this season, and will look to establish himself as a starter in this season.
Andrei Arshavin
The Russian skipper has come under much criticism after some below par displays in this season. Arshavin seems to have lost some of his blistering pace, and has been inconsistent.
However, Arshavin has found net five times so far in this season and along with he has been involved in many other goals for Arsenal.
Although, Arshavin is under fire these days due to his constant inconsistent performances on the pitch but according to statistics, he has been one of the better players for the Gunners this season.
