Football Special Report: Aston Villa looking to end Robbie Keane’s misery
Aston Villa are currently rumoured to be looking to make a move for Tottenham’s former captain Robbie Keane, in hopes to bring a new cutting edge to the team’s attack. However at the same time Villa are more than reluctant to meet the outrageous demands
that Tottenham are making for their out of favour striker.
Keane has appeared to become the hot favourite to be the first player to walk out of the White Hart Lane in the January transfer window, as a result of finding himself falling down the pecking order rather drastically. The player currently sits behind Roman
Pavlyuchenko, Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch and in the unlikely circumstance that all three of the strikers get injured, then he stands the chance of maybe making the starting eleven.
Villa’s manager initially stated that he would make a bid for Manchester United’s out of favour striker Michael Owen, however he recently went ahead and stated that the move for Owen was looking more and more unlikely as the days went by and the chances
of the player coming to Anfield now are slim to none.
On the other hand, as Owen fell down Houllier’s list Keane seemed to go the other way. The player was on loan at Celtic last season and during his stay with the club, he went on to prove that he was capable of adapting to any team and was capable of providing
some rather good performances even at his age.
Tottenham are currently looking to make around eight million pounds for the player, but Villa despite showing all the interest in the player feels that this price is quite unreasonable. Villa are currently only looking to bring the player in on a loan, but
if Tottenham are to lower the price of the players transfer to five million pounds, then they might go in for the kill and bring the player in on a permanent basis.
The addition of Keane would prove to be a rather good one for Villa, as the team is currently flooded with young players and someone with the experience and quality of Keane can only help guide those young players in the right direction. This is something
Houllier is well aware of and will be thinking about it once the January transfer window opens up once again.
