Football Special Report: Barcelona’s Eric Abidal – “We are a bit out of luck!” (Part II)
However, David Villa was missed throughout the game as the ultimate “assistor” Xavi Hernandez was still not the player who was actually missed during the game, as Barcelona did manage to create chances but were unable to plant them into the net.
Most of the squad agreed that the team did have opportunities to “kill the game off” during the first half but they totally failed to do so because of the “lack of finishing ability” in the squad during that time.
According to the French left back, Barcelona did perform extremely well but they were a “bit out of luck” throughout the game. He said that he was simply shock that Barcelona created numerous chances to score a goal but it was simply “luck” that came in
their way and they could not pull off a win against Mallorca – a team that is managed by the former Barcelona player, and legend Michael Laudrup. Abidal later insisted that the team had great luck during the past two years but this time round they were lacking
the same charm.
Eric Abidal added on to this by stating that the team is angry but the final score line has only motivated all the players to work even harder for the next game. Barcelona have to face Valencia at the Nou Camp in the next fixture. Valencia are currently
at the top of the table and are leading the Spanish La Liga. Even though the game is not easy, the enraged Barcelona squad is definitely going to try to kill it the next time round.
Things are definitely going to change for Barcelona during the next game. This is not only because the squad is angered and trying to pull off a win; this is also because the team is going to have some rest because of the international call-ups. The injured
Xavi Hernandez and Pedro Rodriguez are going to find time to recover along with the “just-out-of-injury,” Lionel Messi. However, Messi is going to be a part of the Argentinean team as they are going to face Japan on Friday.
The squad of the Spanish La Liga Champions definitely needs a break as most of them were a part of the FIFA World Cup 2010 and they also played for the full last season and are now currently performing in almost all the games during this season.
The strength of the Barcelona squad is less than the usual teams. Compared to an English team’s squad, Barcelona’s team is “less” in numbers. The top 12 players have all been a part of the FIFA World Cup 2010 and are considered to be the “top choices” for
their national teams. 8 of the players in the team were in the first team of Spain - the team that won the FIFA World Cup 2010 and were crowned as World Champions in South Africa.
Barcelona are now going to try to make a big come back and take advantage of the 2 week break that they are going to get. This break is definitely going to be like a “blessing” for them as some of the big players are going to get some rest. Xavi Hernandez
and Pedro Rodriguez are not included in the Spanish squad that is going to face Scotland on the 12th of October. Therefore, they are going to recover from the injuries that they have suffered during their run in the Spanish La Liga.

Eric Abidal also admitted the fact that Michael Laudrup made tactical changes during the second half of the match as Mallorca decided to defend the 1 goal that they scored during the first half. He believes that they came to the Nou Camp for a draw and they
did get what they wanted. However, it was Barcelona that missed out on good goal scoring chances throughout the game and managed to drop 2 points against Mallorca as they only managed a draw.
