Football Special Report: Chances of Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League – Part 3
With Vermaelen totally going out of question, the French coach decided to sign another French player for his team and again showed the world that he prefers French players in the English side. Arsene Wenger signed Sebastien Squillaci. The former Sevilla centre back still has to prove a lot to the English club and Laurent Koscielny is the other centre back for the Gunners. These defenders have shown time and time again that they can simply not withstand English football and one of them is always sidelined as Arsenal comes down to perform.
As full backs, the “French” side plays Gael Clichy on the left flank and Bacary Sagna on the right flank. There is no doubt that Clichy is the only player left in Arsenal who was a part of the “invincible” season that they played back in 2004, but there is also no doubt that the French defender can simply not come up with all the stress that the English football gives him and everyone sees how all the strikers simply outrun him on the flanks.
On the right flank, it’s the French right back Sagna. Sagna is probably one of the best defenders that Arsenal has and he is probably the second best French player for the Gunners as well; of course, Samir Nasri being the best.
In the centre midfield, there is Alex Song. Alex Song is also a great defensive midfielder. He can work well for the Gunners and he is definitely one of those players who do not really get injured that easily. There are not many holding midfielders in the world at the moment, but Song gets the job done for his team and moves the ball well around the 18 yard box.
Alex Song is a great box to box player and covers most ground during the game as he plays in almost all the defensive and attacking positions. He falls back when the team needs him at the back and makes a move forward whenever they want him to be there to make a killer ball into the 18 yard box. He is definitely one of the best players for the North London side.
The other centre midfield player is the captain of the team and the best player for Arsenal without a doubt, Cesc Fabregas. Even though the Spaniard was trying to make a move to his former club Barcelona, he is still not disappointed even after not being a part of the Catalan giants. He is performing extraordinarily well for the Gunners but injury struck Arsenal again when his “lucky” shot in the goal sidelined him for two weeks. He was not present in the match against Chelsea and that was basically the reason why Arsenal could not hold possession in the midfield.
Fabregas is definitely an outstanding player and someone who cannot be easily replaced in English team; an outstanding passer of the ball and an outstanding dead ball specialist. Even though there are not many free kicks that the fans see him score, but the way he curls the ball in towards his team mates simply shows that he has the talent to play the killer ball.
In the Spanish football team, he is the only player who can replace the midfield mastermind Xavi Hernandez, but there is definitely no player after him who can replace him in the Spanish national team and the Arsenal team as well. Cesc Fabregas has his own class and he has made his way to the top while playing under the legendary Thierry Henry and Patrick Viera. The Spaniard is definitely a player to look out for whenever he is on the field. He makes football look so simple with his one touch passing and his inch perfect through balls.
