Football Special Report: Chances of Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League – (Part 2)
The Spanish side took an early blow as Chelsea were the ones who started the match well and took advantage of their home ground and home crowd. During the 9th minute, a long ranged effort from Michael Essien found the net for the English side
and the hosts were leading Barcelona at the Stamford Bridge.
Later, the match totally went on to become one sided as Barcelona’s left back Eric Abidal took a red card after Nicolas Anelka’s dive. The French player did not even touch Abidal and fell down to the ground and Abidal was sent off. Despite the fact that
Barcelona were a man down, they started to keep possession of the ball and were trying to make a slow build up on goal.
The match went on to stoppage time and it was time for the blues to raise their hands in victory; however, that did not really happen. The Brazilian right back, Daniel Alves crossed the ball into the 18 yard box and found Samuel Eto’o head inside the penalty
area. Eto’o headed the ball towards Lionel Messi but Ashley Cole was the one who got the ball but was not able to clear it completely.
With the ball at Messi’s feat, the fans thought that the wonder boy was going to try to become the star of the show, but Messi passed the ball to the Spanish midfielder Andres Iniesta instead. Iniesta made no mistake in planting the ball into the net. He
shot the ball from outside the box and blasted it past Peter Czech who had no idea what happened, while the Spanish giants raised their hands in victory and Chelsea were left stranded at their home ground, the Stamford Bridge.
In 2008, no one can forget how a penalty miss from John Terry did not let the English Champions take the title as the ball went wide when the Chelsea captain slipped when he was taking the spot kick. However, later Van Der Sar also made a fine save to help
the Red Devils win the cup while the blues were yet again shocked because of their luck.
Chelsea are definitely good contenders for this UEFA Champions League. They made a fine start in the Premier League season and they are currently leading the table with 4 points, just above Manchester City who are at 14. Manchester United are placed at the
third spot with the Gunners at the fourth.
Chelsea also made a fine start in the UEFA Champions League. This time they got paired up with the French side Marseille along with Zilina and Spartak Moskwa. With such easy teams in their group, they are already defeating them with great margins. Chelsea
are currently at the top of both the tables, and their new manager is working hard with the young squad.
Carlos Ancelloti brings on Solomun Kolou for the African sensation Didier Drogba who looks to be in top form. In fact, the whole blues side looks to be very strong despite the fact that they don’t have a full 22 man squad. With John Terry and Alex combining
well at the back along with Ivanovic and the world’s best left back Ashley Cole on the flanks. Their defence is simply flawless.
They also have Peter Czech to help the team between the two poles and the Premier League golden glove winner is a very good choice for the blues. They have Frank Lampard, Essien and Mikel up front while Florent Malouda, Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba look
to be in great form as well.
Malouda is the French midfielder who is currently featuring as a left winger for the English side and he is definitely in great form along with Michael Essien who moves up front to help the team add more pressure in their attacks.
Chelsea definitely have a chance to win the UEFA Champions League and they are definitely a side who deserve to win the European Cup at least once.
