Football Special Report: Chances of Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League – Part 1

Manchester United is definitely one of the most successful clubs in the last decade, or even more. Locally, they have won eleven Premier League titles out of eighteen that have taken place, and this in itself is a record. For the
past eighteen years, the Red Devils have dominated the English Premier League and they have beaten the best throughout this run.
The reason why Manchester United is such a big club is simply because they believe in team play. It is true that individually, not all Manchester United players are outstanding, but as a team they are definitely “united” and they
can break down great teams whenever they face them.
This sort of character building does not come easy when the coach moves to a club to train it. The manager of Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson is a perfect example of this. When he became a part of the Red Devils twenty five
years ago, he could not really win anything for the first six years; however, when he actually did start to win trophies, he never got tired of winning and simply brightened the Manchester United trophy room.
Sir Alex Ferguson believes in making a team rather than building a player, but it is true that a few players that the Red Devils have produced, have shined a lot during their footballing career. These players definitely include
David Beckham and the recently transferred Cristiano Ronaldo.
Who can forget the legendary “Becks” and his fabulous bends that helped United win trophies and also a treble in the year 1999? That year was simply sensational for the Red Devils when they managed to bag themselves three trophies;
the English Premier League, the FA Cup and the greatest title, the UEFA Champions League.
Manchester United’s history in the UEFA Champions League is simply phenomenal as the club has managed to come to the final of the tournament three times and has won the trophy two times. This is a sensational record for any team
and under Sir Alex Ferguson, the team has accomplished a lot as he was given the title of “Sir” because of extraordinary services to the club.
The team in the year 1999 was filled with star players like Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Roy Keane, Peter Schmeichel and the legendary English player David Beckham. This lineup does not really sum up the whole team, as Gary Neville
and Ole Gunnar Skolskjaer were also at the top of their game back then and such a team, under the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, really deserved to win everything.
That year the Red Devils totally dominated the game and showed the world why they are the best team in the world. However, who can forget the fact that most of the players that played in the final match against the German team
Bayern Munich, were actually home grown players of the English club itself and most of them made their way to the top as they became a part of the first team of the best team in the world back then, the Red Devils.
After winning the UEFA Champions League along with two other trophies in the year 1999, the Red Devils under the same manager, made a comeback in 2008. It was for the first time that the Scottish manager decided to build a team
around one player, but the idea was totally successful as the Portuguese youngster Cristiano Ronaldo showed the world his extraordinary skills with the football and became not only “one of the best” players but “the” best player in the world. The simple proof
of this was the player of the year award that he earned at the end of the year and bagged more than forty goals in one season.
