Football Special Report: Chances of Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League – Part 4
Despite the fact that the Red Devils took a three goal lead during the first half, it was simply luck that their defender Rafael Di Silva got an “unjust” second yellow card in the second half which took the side to being a man
down.
With a man’s advantage, Bayern Munich kept on coming towards the goal again and again and soon it was seen that the Red Devils simply failed to stop them. However, the defence wasn’t totally a flop. They kept on defending their
goal but an extraordinary shot from Arjen Robben was simply enough to knock Manchester United out of the European competition. But it is true that on any other day, the Red Devils could have been a much better side. This is not because of Wayne Rooney, but
because of Rafael’s yellow card that he earned only for pulling Franck Ribery’s shirt.
This season, Manchester United lacks the same old Rooney as he was involved in a few scandals. It is true that Rooney is a sensational striker and once he is back in the form that he was in back then, he can simply do wonders.
However, it is also true that with Wayne Rooney gone, Dimitar Berbatov showed the world his worth. There were many critics for the Bulgarian international as he was the laziest striker on the pitch and many said that he was not worth the 30 million pounds
that the team spent on him.
The former Tottenham Hotspur’s man has shown his worth this season, and he scored the first ever hat trick during his career in Manchester United; what better occasion could it be for the Red Devils as his team was facing their
rivals, Liverpool. After Berbatov’s hat trick, the Bulgarian totally gave a shut up call to all his critics and proved to everyone that he was one of the best strikers in Manchester United’s squad.
Besides Berbatov, Sir Alex Ferguson has very few options left on the bench to score goals. One of the options is the newly signed Mexican starlet, Javier Hernandez. Many say he is inexperienced and it is also true that his quick
feet are not only “quick” like Theo Walcott, but they are also full of talent.
The Mexican boy is simply a “wonder kid” and he can really help the team with his pace and amazing finishing ability. Who can forget his goal against Argentina during the pre quarter final match of the FIFA World Cup 2010? The
Mexican shooting star simply got past two Argentinean defenders and shot the ball into the net to score the only goal for his team during the match.
Later, he made an appearance against Chelsea in the Community Shield final. Many expected that the game was going to be a thriller but with the help of “Chicharito” Hernandez, the team scored three goals. He was the one who scored
the winning goal of the match and it was seen that he could become the “future” Wayne Rooney for the English club. However, he still has a long way to go.
Soon, his bench warming became an issue for the press and they started to raise the issue. Sir Alex Ferguson told everyone that he was still playing the kid as a reserve because he wants him to get used to English football.
Sir Alex Ferguson surprisingly played him in the second half of the away leg in the UEFA Champions League, against the Spanish side Valencia. Valencia were in great form and they were the league toppers in the Spanish La Liga when
the Red Devils beat them in Spain and it was Javier Hernandez who scored the winning goal for the Red Devils; proving to the world that he was simply a sensational striker.
