Football Special Report: English Premier League- Looking Back On the Summer Transfers (Part 1)
With having only a quarter of the English Premier League gone by, right now is a good time to make an assessment of the summer transfers that came in, rank all the new comers that came in and see just how well they have been performing.
This year the best transfers seem to be coming from outside of England and names like Hernandez, Chamakh and van der Vaart highlight the list. But there were also other numerous players that were exchanged in the Premiership and still remain there making
a name for them.
Judging the players among the cash-ins that Manchester City made at the start of the summer and the pocket change moves made some of the players seemed to have adapted to their new environment well and groomed ten folds.
Honorable mentions: Moussa Dembele (Fulham), DJ Campbell (Blackpool), Sebastien Squillaci (Arsenal)
Frédéric Piquionne, West Ham United
Frédéric Piquionne is a thirty one year old French Footballer, he plays as a Striker for West Ham United, and he started his youth career in 1996 with Golden star. Then he made the move to a big team in 2000 and that was Nimes in France.
He has gone through numerous clubs like Rennes, Monaco, Lyon etc and has been sent thrice on loan. He made a move to Lyon in 2008 and from 2009-2010 he was loaned out to Portsmouth and from there he made a switch to the Premier league and got himself a move
from Lyon to West Ham United as the player wanted to play in the English Premier League.
So far, he has made appearances in all the ten matches that West Ham United has played so far in the English Premier League. He has found the goal net twice during this period and as the player is six feet and two inches tall his enormous frame aids the
Hammers in their matches especially as it now compliments with their other massive forward player Carlton Cole.
This Frenchman seems to have a habit of joining numerous clubs at the deep end of the table, as Portsmouth was relegated last season and the Hammers are coming as the bottom most club in the English Premier League.
The hammers have only scored seven goals so far and that is a record low in the Premiership even for the club itself.
The team is not anything special and is not performing at the level required of them but as far as the new signing goes, then Frédéric Piquionne is a player that is constantly proving himself and is only being held back by the team around him.
David Silva, Manchester City
David Silva is the twenty four year old Spaniard that plays for the Citizens and the Spanish National team. He plays as a midfielder or a winger in most cases,
He started with Valencia’s youth academy in 2000 and after three years, he made the move to the big league and finally the first team in 2004. Then he spent another six years with them and gave in a hundred and nineteen performances, with twenty one goals
scored.
Then the player went on two successive loans spell both for a year each and then finally made a move to the Citizens in the summer of 2010.
He has also been a part of the Spanish national team from the under seventeen team which is joined in 2002 and then made the move to the first team squad in 2006.
