Football Special Report: FIFA Ballon d'Or News: Barcelona player Xavi disappointed over Wesley Sneijder’s exclusion from finalists
The latest person to join the ranks of critics is Xavi Hernandez; as he slams exclusion of the Ducthman Wesley Sneijder from the top three of Ballon d'Or.
The coveted midfielder of Barcelona, Xavi has stated that he is against the decision of omitting the twenty-six-year-old Netherland international. He admitted that he was disappointed with the decision and recognized the impressive performances of Sneijder
last season.
Sneijder who was in stunning form last season guided his club Inter Milan to a treble. The treble included the Champions League title as well as the Serie A title. If that wasn’t enough to prove his worth to his club; the prodigal player
led Netherlands to the finals of FIFA 2010 World in South Africa. He was easily one of the best players in Europe with many assists and goals under his name. It can without a doubt be said that Sneijder was the pivot that turned the fortunes around for Nerzzurri.
The former manager of Inter; Jose Mourinho, who is currently managing at Real Madrid also had a large role in helping Inter win the treble. He has also recognized the Dutchman’s services and stated that without it would have been impossible to win all these
titles last season. Xavi therefore also has similar thoughts on the omitting of Sneijder from the award. The Spanish international was bold in presenting his opinions after Barcelona’s latest triumph in Champions League.
The Blaugrana midfielder stated,
“For me, beating Real Madrid is at the top of my list, as they are one of our biggest rivals. It was a fantastic thing, especially the score line.”
He also said, “A lot of people don't support us for doing so well in both the league and Champions League. They cannot wait to lay the boots into us.”
The thirty-year-old player added, “As for Sneijder, I know that in Italy they are angry because he is not one of the finalists. I can only agree with them. The Dutchman has had a fantastic year.”
This year all three finalist are from the Barcelona squad; namely Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi. All team-mates are very proud of each other and with the result date growing nearer, one can expect that this is going to be yet another, tough competition.
