Football Special Report: Lionel Messi Great, Maradona and Pele the greatest – Clarence Seedorf
AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf has forged himself a reputation for being outspoken over the years. The Milan number 10 was at it again recently when he was asked who the greatest player on the Earth was.
“Who is the strongest player today? Lionel Messi of course. Best of all time? I have two names coming to my mind and no one will disagree with Maradona and Pele being the best of all time”
‘The greatest player of all time’ debate has been going on for decades without a conclusion with supporters of Maradona and Pele both putting forward their cases. FIFA conducted a poll few years back to find out the best player of all the time. Pele was
selected as the best of all times by players and coaches, while Maradona landed the ‘fans choice’ award. Needless to say, the debate is still raging on with both the legendary players proclaiming themselves as the best.
Seedorf was speaking to goldenfoot.com where the legendary Dutchman is a contender himself. Other candidates for the award are David Beckham, Gianluigi Buffon, Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o, Steven Gerrard, Ryan Giggs, Carlos Puyol, Raul Gonzalez and Francesco
Totti.
On the topic of Milan’s purchase of Ibrahimovic and Robinho, Seedorf was happy to have quality company on the pitch,
“both the players are champions and very important to our cause. But they need time and hard work to show their true potential”
AC Milan finally splashed the case on the superstars following the sale of Ricardo kaka and the retirement of legendary skipper Paolo Maldini. Robinho is visibly lacking match fitness, while Ibrahimovic has already scored a handful of goals for the Rossoneri.
Seedorf is currently enjoying a break from football following the International break. The Dutch legend accumulated 87 caps for the The Flying Dutchmen in the 14 years he played in the Orange colours. The attacking midfielder retired from International football
in 2008, after fallout with Van Basted; then coach of the Netherlands National team.
