Football Special Report: Liverpool’s expenditure plans, transfers and signings during the summers, deal with QSL’s Huang, player controversies (Part 1)
Apart from the coveted Spanish striker, Fernando Torres there is another player from the Liverpool ranks that has caused a lot of controversy in the transfer department of football this summer and that is the Argentinean captain, Javier Alejandaro Mascherano.
Even before the beginning of summer, more like near the end of the Barclay’s English Premier League, speculation had risen that the 26 year old Argentine maestro would be leaving Anfield. However, at that time it wasn’t certain where he would be heading.
Interest for him had been sparked up by several different top notch clubs but none of them had solidified their claims yet. The arch rivals AC Milan and Inter Milan would have topped the list if Barcelona and Real Madrid hadn’t being eyeing midfielder.
All this was hyped up with interest for other stars of Liverpool; Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres left Anfield in crisis. The Scouser Steve G. had predicted that he might leave Anfield, as he articulated with a couple of jumbled up and cleverly disguised words that he did not want to carry out his career in a failing club.
Every big star dreams of having a career at a big club and till a point in time, that is probably before the last season everyone did consider the Reds a big club but after their recent elimination form Champions League things had changed a lot.
The new manager at Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho, has since ever been in search of a way of making a dream team and with his dream list becoming more in to a bucket list, the Portuguese ruler at Bernabeu was certain that his time and money at Real Madrid would finally make his dream come true. However, disappointment lay in his path, as both Gerrard and Torres disagreed to the commitment.
It so happened that last season when Torres was injured he constantly complained that the Liverpool team lacked talent and needed some new players. His comments soon turned in to taunts and portrayed a very ugly picture of Anfield and in reality that was the truth.
The club is still facing financial troubles and can’t cope with the pressure. Following his lead, many other players stated that they also wanted to leave the club if a change wasn’t brought. Then manger Rafael Benitez was thrown in to the fire in this situation, when he was blamed for all the failures even though he had a pretty good squad.
The American owners of Liverpool promised him that Bentiez would be granted enough funds, so that he can rebuild the squad. Therefore, Benitez had to wait for them but what came at the end of the football season from Liverpool could be anticipated by no one.
The owners told Benitez that they could lend him only 5 million pounds to reorganize his squad and this was no joke. A furious Benitez stormed out of the office and left Anfield. The news that stuck however, that Spaniard Rafa of Reds had been sacked.
The canning of Benitez was also demanded by the majority of the Liverpool team and when the exit had been revealed, many players decided to commit their loyalty to the Merseyside. The major stars of the team were still not convinced that this would ensure a healthier Anfield and there kept eluding clubs and fans.
Benitez went to manage the Champions League victors in Inter Milan, where he has replaced Jose Mourinho, who at last joined Real Madrid at Bernabeu.
