Football Special Report: Premier League Team Of The Week – Part 3
This resulted in the match becoming very competitive and Sunderland not giving the European mavericks a chance to score, when the Red Devils had expected it to be a walk in the park.
Sunderland’s best defensive strategy was to have a good attacking strategy and all of this was headed by the French man Steed Malbranque, who really proved himself in this match and made his fans feel proud.
Rafael van der Vaart: Left Midfield – Tottenham Hotspur
This twenty seven year old Dutch man who plays as an attacking midfielder or as a second striker had some week for the Lily Whites, as he first did everything bad and then good for the team in the Champions League.
Later on in English Premier League he played against Aston Villa and single handedly scored for his team’s victory.
Rafael van der Vaart is also a part of the Dutch national team and is considered to be one of the best playmakers out there. He started out in Ajax’s youth academy and made his first team debut when he was only seventeen years
old.
He has moved through clubs like Hamburg, Real Madrid and then came to the English Premier League and joined the Lily Whites in the summer.
His transfer came as a last minute surprise because it was literally made in the last few moments of the transfer window. Initially he was being transferred to Bayern Munich for eighteen million Euros but after that he went South;
Harry Redknapp made the transfer for eight million Euros.
Almost everything done in Tottenham Hotspur’s latest match was from a direct or indirect result of Rafael Van der Vaart’s actions. He gave passes to the attackers and almost scored a hat-trick but missed his third attempt by a
close call.
Luke Varney: Striker – Blackpool
If it is argued, from the Liverpool match, that a single striker was the only element in the team playing and that certain striker was so good that the whole opposing team was not able to tame him even after their numerous efforts
to do so then it is very obvious that the player being argued about is not Fernando Torres but actually it was Luke Varney.
The Reds could not control this twenty eight year old English footballer as his play was absolutely brilliant. He scored an excellent penalty against the Reds.
To make Varney shine brighter, this player not only attacked but constantly kept surpassing Liverpool’s offside traps.
The match ended with Varney scoring twice and winning the game for Blackpool.
Didier Drogba: Striker – Chelsea
The truth and simple fact is that the Gunners just could not handle Didier Drogba, as he is too skilled, quick and strong for a team like Arsenal to handle.
Didier Drogba is a thirty two years old Ivorian footballer and he plays the centre forward position in the team. He is the captain of the Blues and is an all time top scorer for the Ivory Coast national football team. His name
is at the top of the chart for any foreign player to have scored in Chelsea and is the Blues sixth highest goal scorer of all time.
He scored the first goal of the match by flicking the ball and was an imminent threat on the field.
Didier Drogba was benched in the match against Manchester City as he gave a dreadful performance and did not quite perform up to the level expected from him.
