Football Special Report: Soccer goes s**y
Soccer is probably one of the most famous sports on the face of this planet. Its matches are held with great zeal and zest, with thousands of spectators witnessing the event live, while millions catching it on T.V. The activity is unarguably, one of the most glamorous sport, with its players not treated any less than the richest monarchs and moguls. Not does it have hefty prizes for its winners; it has in store the key to unparalleled fame and recognition.
A long time ago, soccer was merely treated as just a sport. A fun activity that boosted overall fitness and welcomed players who had genuine interest in the sport. These volunteers were trained relentlessly for several months and then put to the field to prove their mettle. Fans gathered to witness some exceptionally good moves. Footballers were loved because of the football they played. Regardless of physical appearances and their cutting looks, players were simply considered human beings, who were excellent with the ball, after rigorous trainings and long hours of practises.
However, those days are gone. With the sport growing into a larger-than-life event, the players are no longer “one of us” people. Not anymore are the soccer players’ just plain living beings with dexterity of striking the ball hard and right. Footballers are now much more than that. They are fashion emblems, flashy adverts, and insignia of successful lives.
With all the hype that accompanies the football festivals, fans get to see more of their favourite stars, exuberant and ripped; ready to hit the balls, making their lovers go crazy. Soccer players have an oozing s*x appeal that seems to scatter all around in the playing field, and also outside the stadiums. Its stays with them life-long making these talented players turn into chiselled gods with their every move followed by thousands of die-hard fans around the world. Their faces are posted on huge billboards and bodies embraced on magazines like Vanity Fair; making the players more “available” yet less “accessible.”
A look at the football fields closely reveals that each player seems to be portraying an image of perfection. An up, close and personal view of their lives signals stardom, phenomenal accomplishments and inimitable fame. With the game evolving into a pumped up event, the soccer players leave no stone unturned to thrill their fans. Latest haircuts, tattooed limbs, ripped bodies coupled with unimaginable football moves makes their fans scream out of air. With their worked out athletic bodies and strikingly gorgeous looks, players like Kaka and Cristiano appear no less than Greek gods. Regardless of the footballers’ ages, the glam seems to multiply at an uncontrolled rate, making them bread and butter for paparazzi.
The flashy lifestyles and excessive riches make these players stand out from the rest. Expensive vacations, pimped cars and personal jets are few of the endeavours these stars get to enjoy. However, with fans practically going goo goo gaa gaa over their favourite footballers, sometimes these s*x symbols miss enjoying the simple joys of ordinary life. The frenzy that comes along with stardom makes them miss out the “other” side of life. Simple joys such as a solitude evening or unmonitored calorie intake are nowhere to be found in their lives. Their schedules are pre-determined, their time precious. Strolls down the road or a nap in the fields are few of the free luxuries the richest footballers can’t afford. With their lives confined to media, stadiums and practises, the hyped up players forget the leisure of simplicity.
With this thought, it brings forth a point to ponder. Despite the countless achievements, do these supreme players get to enjoy a complete healthy life? Perhaps no is the answer. In all this hype, the players forget the real essence of the word “sport” and fail to signify its importance in their very own lives. They might as well be flourishing superficially, but their inner self is bound in chains of complicated dos and don’ts. While the soccer plays continue to sparkle, it is yet to be remembered that all that glitters is not gold..
