Football Special Report: The Gunners Star Team of the Last Decade (Part 6)

Midfielder: Ray Parlour
Ray Parlour is thought to be one of the most under rated players of his time but ‘the Gooners’ have always had a special place for him. He was a very consistent midfielder and a crucial player in the team.
He was also a vital part of the ‘Invincible’ squad that amazed everyone in the world and was a very loyal player to Arsenal.

Right Back: Lauren
Another tough call in this list was choosing between Lauren and Sagna. Lauren initially came as a first choice as he was a right back for more than five seasons and was a part of the ‘Invincible’ squad. He is still considered to be a very competent player
and a very good support in the attack.

Midfielder: Gilberto Silva
Gilberto Silva had a partnership with Patrick Viera on the field. Focusing on the midfield, they were a key factor to Arsenal’s success. Silva will always be remembered as a player that always used to be very passionate for the club and he even created an
amazing partnership with Cesc Fabregas after the leave of Viera from the club.
Gilberto Silva is a role model for young players to inspire to and this has helped players like Denilson stay in London.

Striker: Nwankwo Kanu
After the leave of Nicolas Anelka from the Gunners, Kanu stepped in as one of the leading strikers for Arsenal. Though he was not one of the most creative strikers out there, he was a goal scoring machine and a play maker.
His importance was decreased by the emerging Henry but he is still a fan favourite and is voted as thirteenth in line for the all time greatest Arsenal’s players.

Defender: Martin Keown

Martin Keown was not in his best shape after the start of the new decade and he had been performing for Arsenal for more than ten years at the time of the start of the new millennium. Keown was a dangerous tackler and a threat on the field.
However, Keown was replaced by Kolo Toure in 2003 and then he moved out of the club in 2004. Still he thought to be one of the best players in Arsenal’s history.

Winger: Freddie Ljunberg
One of the most debatable decisions made in this article was including Robin Van Persie over the legendary Freddie Ljunberg.
Ljunberg is thought to be one of Arsenal’s greatest players and is voted to be eleventh most loved player in the Gunners history and he was loved ever since he made his debut with Arsenal.
