Manchester United’s long serving manager; Sir Alex Ferguson took over the club back in 1986. In his 24 years legacy at the club, the manager has enabled the team to win multiple trophies under his reign, including 11 league titles and 2 European Championships.
Some of the World’s greatest players have thus played under the guidance of the Scottish manager. Ferguson is to be credited for United’s success over the last quarter of a century and now is the most popular club on the planet. The manager has created some of the true greats of football and is considered to be the best manager of all times. Sir Alex Ferguson’s contributions towards football led him to receive Knighthood in 1999.
The following are the top 13 players who have played under the legendary manager.
No.13- Wayne Rooney (2004-present)
Starting off, the extremely talented striker Wayne Rooney joined United back in 2004. Rooney was the most expensive teenager in the premier league. The deal was worth around 25 million Euros at the time and is now the famous English footballer on the planet.
Last season, Rooney had the best season to date, scoring 34 goals in all competitions. The striker made an unforgettable debut for the Red Devils, netting a hatrick against Fenerbrace in the UEFA Champions league. Rooney has scored 131 goals in 283 appearances since joining United in 2004 and is the most important player for the Devils currently. The striker has won the England player of the year twice, along with winning the PFA Players’ player of the year last season. Rooney has won three premier league medals and one Champions league medal in 2008 since joining United.  He was also the premier league player of the year last season.
Wayne Rooney, who is just 24, has a bright future ahead of him and is currently considered to be the third best player behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Wayne Rooney is considered to be the best forward of his time and has an eye for goal every time he is on the field. The player was overshadowed by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, but following Ronaldo’s departure, Rooney became the inspiration behind United’s second place finish. The striker has the passion and commitment towards football and has been seen playing despite injuries.
No.12- Dwight Yorke (1998-2002)
Dwight Yorke was an integral part of United’s treble winning squad and was one of the top players for the Devils in his five years. Yorke joined United from Aston Villa and played as an attacking midfielder for the club. In his first season with the Devils, Yorke won a unique treble with United. Yorke won the Premier league, the FA cup and the UEFA champion’s league in the same season and was phenomenal when he formed a partnership with Andy Cole. Yorke, scored 18 times in the league to win the golden boot of the English league and scored against the like of Bayerb Munich, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Juventus in the Champions league.
The forward scored 22 times in all competitions. His contributions would be remembered by all over the years and is considered to be United’s greats. The forward was phenomenal for the club and his hatrick against Arsenal was crucial to help United win its third successive title. In all, Yorke has scored 64 times in his four years at the club. For a player to be that influential for a club in his first season is truly remarkable. No other English club has ever won a treble and Yorke was one of the regulars for the team. The treble season is the pride of every United fan and Yorke is therefore respected by all. The player is known as the “Smiling assassin” as he always had a big smile on his face. In front of goal, Dwight was lethal which made him a true legend.
