Football Special Report: Top clubs of the season so far (Part 1)
Season 2010/2011 has started off wonderfully well in European club football. Bundesliga, Serie A and the Premier League have all improved manifolds in terms of competitiveness. Smaller teams have looked for attacking intent and indeed it’s the newly found
hunger in smaller teams that will be recipe for a resounding 2011.
Bettor.com now pays tribute to the best clubs of the season so far:
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Barcelona-c39078
It would be criminal not to start the list with FC Barcelona. The Catalans continue to play otherworldly football week-in and out. Los Cules are competing on three fronts as usual and the statistics read: 26 played, 21 won, 4 drawn and 1 lost – stunning
stuff indeed. The 5 – 0 humiliation of Real Madrid was really the icing on the cake for Blaugnara faithful.
With the quality of football Blaugnara are playing, many have gone the lengths and tagged Barca class of 2010, ‘the best club football team of all times’. While such lavishing praise is perhaps going too far, Barca are indeed playing some sensational football
under Pep Guardiola. Los Cules are favourites in every competition the team has set feet in – another historic treble maybe?
Real Mardid
Granted, Merengues were crushed 5 – 0 by Barca in the El Clasico, but that was the only defeat Real have tasted so far under Mourinho. Statistics read: 25 played, 20 won, 4 drawn and a single defeat. Only Barca can better this record on the whole of continent.
While the stats truly speak for themselves, the fact that as many as eight of the starting eleven were not with the team in 2009 adds further glitter to this accomplishment. In just over 18 months, Los Galacticos have come a long way in terms of team chemistry.
With legendary Jose in charge, it will only get better in the coming months.
While their league form has been brilliant, it is in the Champions League where Merengues have impressed the most. One certainly shouldn’t bet against a 10th Champions League trophy for Real Madrid.
Borussia Dortmund
The fallen giants of German football have woken up from their slumber. After years and years of mediocrity, a prolonged spell in exile, Die Borussen have returned to where they belonged in the first place; top of the table.
Spearheaded by Paraguayan forward http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lucas-Barrios-c22533, Dortmund are currently 10 points clear at the top of the table and only an implosion will derail Borussia’s season. While Barrios has scored most of the important goals for Borussen, it is in fact the midfield
duo of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Shinji-Kagawa-c33364 that has stolen the headlines.
Sahin’s potential was known to most following the German league but Schwarzgelben scouts have unearthed one gem of a player in Kagawa. At just 21 years of age, the Japanese international is only going to get frighteningly better with age.
The only blip in a stunning season has been Borussia’s premature exit from UEFA Europa League. However, knowing that the league leaders will be competing in the Champions League next season, Coach Jurgen Klopp will be content with his life at the moment.
