Football Special Report: Without Ronaldo, Possible – Without Rooney... Impossible?
Manchester United, a club that has gained a lot of fame in the recent years of the English Premier League. The English league was totally dominated by the “big four.” These four teams are namely; Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool. The four clubs have totally dominated English football and have won most of the titles in the history of the English League. With Liverpool and Manchester United tied at 18 apiece, the rest are still lagging behind to catch up on them. Therefore, many even call the English League as; “a league of two teams.”
With respect to everyone’s point of view, the English league is actually the toughest league in the world; however, the “top 4” actually battled each other out for the glory. In the previous season, everything changed. With great talent coming to almost every team in England, the teams started to give tough time to the big guns. The top 4 changed in the previous season after decades when Liverpool actually ended 7th in the premier league. With their last Premier League going “pretty well,” this season, they tumbled down to the 7th spot, as many of the teams like Fulham, Tottenham Hotspurs and Manchester City, have strengthen their squads to challenge each and every team.
Everyone knows about the big English club, Manchester United, how they create players and sell them to big clubs; just like David Bekham, Ruud Van Nistelroy and even Cristiano Ronaldo. When the English club sold Bekham, they had a few names that could help them win the title. Eventually, they actually won the title without Bekham, or even Van Nistelroy.
In the previous season, the big club sold off their biggest asset, Cristiano Ronaldo; who was apparently stealing the “spotlight of the show.” Many say he was over rated but many think that he is one of the best wingers of all times. He has amazing talent at his feet and he can seriously take amazing free kicks and score goals from them. He was sent to Real Madrid where he is actually the “only player” performing really well, along with Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas, who are the old players of the club. The new players like Kaka and Karim Benzema did not really work for the team but are still part of the squad.
With Cristiano Ronaldo gone in the previous season, the fans started to think that it was impossible for the English Club, Manchester United, to win the League. Their famous coach Alex Ferguson, however, had other plans in mind. He brought in his player, “Wayne Rooney,” to the central position and the tides turned for the young Englishman. Wayne Rooney, who was overshadowed by Cristiano Ronaldo in the early seasons, started to perform really well in the new role that he was given. He is, right now, known to be the best strikers in club football, as he did not manage to perform well in the FIFA World Cup 2010.
Wayne Rooney proved the world that it was all possible for the “Red Devils,” and they still have a chance in the league. He kept on scoring goals for his team and Chelsea were the only side that came close to them in terms of points.
Manchester United kept on performing well and were at the top of the league throughout until, the time came when Rooney was needed the most but he was injured. With an injury taken by the Red Devil’s striker, the team totally finished. Berbatov could not really perform at his best, throughout the season and Giggs could not be the saviour of the team this time round. With Wayne Rooney gone, Manchester United had no hope of winning the English League or even the Champion’s League. They had a match against Blackburn Rovers, and Wayne Rooney could not be a part of this because of the blow that he had taken in the previous week. Manchester United drew the match and their chances of winning the league came down to almost zero. On the other hand, Alex Ferguson played Wayne Rooney in a match against Bayern Munich, even though he was injured. The whole team had faith in him, but the wounded Rooney limped out during the second half, without scoring a goal. The German team did not really win the match at Trafford, but played enough to eliminate the English side.
With Cristiano Ronaldo gone, many said that the team is not going to perform but this year round things are totally different for the Red Devils. Wayne Rooney is the only “key player” that the team has and with him not included in the squad, there is no chance for the English team, to even stay steady in the English League.
