Football Special Report: Xavi Hernandez and the year 2010 (Part 4)
29th June: As the Spanish side qualified for the next round of the FIFA World Cup 2010, they were to face a very tough Portuguese side in a pre quarter final clash. Xavi Hernandez was to play in the match in his favourite centre
midfield position. The Portuguese side were very strong in the defence and they did not concede a single goal throughout the FIFA World Cup 2010’s campaign. However, it was a delightful pass from Xavi Hernandez towards David Villa that saw the Spanish striker
right in front of goal as the newly signed Barcelona striker finished the ball into the net to help the Spanish team qualify for the quarter finals.
3rd July: The Barcelona midfielder was again a part of the Spanish team in the centre midfield as they were to face the South American side Paraguay in a quarter final match. The match was simply intense and it was the South American
team that managed to win a penalty during the first half but they could not score past Iker Casillas. Later, the European side won a penalty as well but the Real Madrid holding midfielder Xabi Alonso could not really get the job done for his side and later
it was the Spaniards who won with the help from Xavi Hernandez’s fabulous pass.
7th July: The Spanish side were now in a stage where they could not make a mistake as they were to face a very impressive and tough looking German side in the semi final of the FIFA World Cup 2010. There was no space for any mistakes
and Xavi Hernandez made sure that he does not slip a ball in the midfield as he helped the team contain the slow pace which was required to control the German team. It was Xavi Hernandez who changed the cause of the game as he delivered a perfect ball inside
the penalty area from a corner. His Barcelona team mate Carles Puyol jumped to score the only goal of the game to help the Spaniards reach their first final of the FIFA World Cup 2010. The goal looked to be the exact carbon copy of the goal that Puyol scored
against the Spanish club Real Madrid in the game which Barcelona won 2-6 in Santiago Bernabeu.
11th July: The Spanish coach Vicente Del Bosque decided to play Xavi Hernandez in the heart of his team as the Spaniards were to face an “all-winning” Netherlands side. The Barcelona star played for the full 120 minutes as he
led his side to the historical win as the Spaniards won the game 1-0 against the Dutch and won their first ever FIFA World Cup in the history of the game. Even though the only goal of the game came from his Barcelona team mate Andres Iniesta and the pass to
him was given by the Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, Xavi still managed to impress throughout the game as he stuck on to his concrete and perfect passing.
