Football Special Report: Xavi Hernandez and the year 2010 (Part 6)
5th October: As Xavi Hernandez was playing fabulously throughout the previous season and also throughout the year 2010, he managed to become a celebrity in the Catalan area. Not only did the fans of Barcelona love him, in fact,
the fans of the Spanish team loved him too. On 5th October 2010, Xavi Hernandez was invited by the Catalan Sports Administration and he was given the first edition of the “Catalan Sports Prize.” It was definitely an honour for him as he managed
to become the first Spanish player to win the Catalan Sports Prize.
6th October: Xavi Hernandez was already a hero for his home town’s administration known as Adjuntament de Terrassa. He was given a trophy earlier in the year 2010 but after helping the Spanish team in the FIFA World Cup 2010,
his hometown decided to award him with yet another “prize” and on 6th October, they gave him another medal of honour just like the one they gave him earlier in the same year. Xavi was now definitely a hero in the eyes of not only his family and
friends or his home town but for Spain as a country itself.
16th October: Barcelona were to face Valencia, the table toppers of the Spanish La Liga back then. The Catalan Giants were involved in a “must win” situation because they had already lost a game at home from a newly promoted side
Hercules. The Spanish Champions had to win in order to take their place at the second spot of the Spanish Primera Liga and it was Xavi Hernandez who helped his side make a massive come back. As it was Valencia who managed to score the first goal of the game
with the help of Roberto Soldado, it was Andres Iniesta who was helped by Xavi Hernandez after a wonderful one-two passing move as both the Spaniards combined well to help their side equalize. Later, Lionel Messi scored to help his side win the game and Barcelona
were advanced to the second spot of the Spanish La Liga, right under their rivals Real Madrid who were unbeaten while being under Jose Mourinho.
22nd October: Xavi Hernandez definitely needed rest and Josep Guardiola made sure that he does not become a part of the games that will be easy for his side to win. The Spanish midfielder missed the game against Real Zaragoza
on 22nd October 2010, but he was still on the news as he became Barcelona’s representative in picking up the Premio Princepes d’Asturies as a part of the Spanish team. Another big honour for the dynamic midfielder who was the only one to represent
the eight players that performed in the Spanish team that played during the FIFA World Cup 2010.
29th November: The Catalan Giants were to face their arch nemesis Real Madrid in a very important “el Clasico” encounter which was to take place in the Nou Camp, the home ground of Barcelona. Xavi Hernandez did feature for his
team and the Spaniard totally pulled the strings of the game as Barcelona were all over Jose Mourinho’s Los Blancos. During the first half, it was Xavi who received a wonderful through ball from Andres Iniesta and scored the first goal of the game as the Catalan
Giants later won it 5-0 and came to the top of the Spanish La Liga – a position that they truly deserved.
6th December: Xavi Hernandez was named in the top 3 candidates of the FIFA Pilota d’Or. The Catalan had a remarkable year just like the other two candidates who are also a part of Barcelona, Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta.
