Football Special Report - the shortest lived managerial tenures
Leroy Rosenior
The shortest serving football manager of all time has easily been Leroy Rosenior. The manager was appointed to take over, however ten minutes into his press conference something bizarre happened. The manager was told that the club had been sold and the new owners wanted their own manager to take charge of the team.
After him being fired only after ten minutes of being in charge of the team, the manager was reported saying in an interview, "It was something that I knew was going to happen but I didn't think it would only take 10 minutes."
Jorn Andersen
One of the harshest dismissals ever recorded was of Norwegian manager, Jorn Andersen. The manager was sacked on the eve of the new Bundesliga season while he was preparing himself and the team for the new season.
The manager has helped Mainz get promoted to the first division, after only one season as manager of the team. With just six days left in the kick off of the new season, the manager was fired from his job.
The general manager of the team was reported to say, "We have at Mainz clear a job profile to define how a coach should work with the team and the club."
Andersen took those words but without being too bitter, he responded to those words by saying, "I regret the decision of the club very much, but our ideas were simply too different. We don't part on angry terms."
His replacement, Thomas Tuchel led the team to finish in the number nine spot the coming season.
Luigi del Neri
The current manager of Juventus found it almost impossible to take over at Porto after the departure of Jose Mourinho. The manager was appointed on a three-year contract after having a more than impressive season at Chievo. However, he managed to take charge of the team only for a few pre-season friendly games, after which he was shown the door. The reason for this being that the club president lost patience with the manager after he returned unusually late from his vacation in Italy.
After his dismissal the manager was reported to have said, "I believe after the excellent results achieved over the past two years, the club directors were afraid of change," said the fired manager adding on, "I've tried to come up with a theory, a valid reason for my dismissal, but I still can't find one."
Juande Ramos
After leading Sevilla to double back-to-back UEFA Cup triumphs, the manager was eyed by the leading clubs in Europe. He was a huge disappointment at Tottenham and was eventually sacked for a couple of months. Before joining Real Madrid the manager was appointed by CSKA Moscow. The managers stay in Russia was a turnoff as well. In his first derby match, he saw CSKA go three nil down in the half time. This saw him to be the butt of every fans hatred. The players and the manager had to be escorted off the pitch after that incident due to the fact that the fans almost went insane after the defeat. The manager was shown the boot by the team after only being in charge of the team for six weeks.
Nonetheless, the sacking of Ramos was far more justified than the numerous other managers. If a manager fails to perform against a team’s arch rivals and instead of helping the team move forward, makes it move backwards, then the best possible option for the club is to let the manager go.
