Football Star Wars - Johan Cruyff: Sandro Rosell The Circus Master, Rosell Can't Manage Fabregas
Johan Cruyff, the legendary Dutch striker, who led the Netherlands to becoming the ultimate footballing power in the 1970's by bringing them in two finals, has claimed that it is “ridiculous” if the title of the honorary member of Barcelona is given back to him. He is clearly not impressed with mindless decisions the new President of the club Sandro Rosell is making.
The veteran Dutch who was an extraordinary player and manager, gave up his position at the start of this month when Rosell announced that there was no legitimate basis for such posts in Barcelona FC.
The 63 year old Cruyff stated in response to the comments by Rosell that he doesn’t want to be a “nuisance” for Rosell and is resigning for his sake. He also said that he has no matters or issues to discuss with Rosell and his current way of ruling made it seem as though he was managing a “circus”.
While speaking to media the maestro relayed on the issue, “He cannot respond after I return the badge. It was a very sad day for me, it hurt my pride”.
Rosell succeeded the previous President of Barcelona Joan Laporta in a landslide of votes in his favour. His reign started at the start of the month and it was no secret that Rosell, who worked under Laporta as second in command, left the club after a disagreement in 2005.
Now after his return Rosell is bringing massive changes in the club. Cruyff expressed on the subject, “Rosell called me and asked to speak on this matter. I do not know what he wants to talk about. I don't want to be a nuisance and therefore I returned the (honorary) badge. I have never seen a circus like this. Again, I will not be a problem for the club and that is why I have returned it”.
Cruyff, who himself managed at Barcelona from 1988-1996 emphatically clarified, “The case no longer exists. We should have talked between 15 June and 1 July. I am no longer in the game, I am out. If they returned it to me now it would be ridiculous. They could have called or written me a letter, but everything should have been done before making a final decision”.
Well Cruyff is not the only move that he has confounded many. His attempts on the captain of Arsenal, whom the Catalan side has desired from a long time is one too. Sources have revealed that the Barcelona board is willing to sell out one of the world’s best striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, so that they can have a larger number of funds at their disposal in order to get back their long gone player Fabregas.
Just recently, the Spanish giants who won the La Liga title have revealed that the club is in a financial crisis. Rosell told that they hadn’t paid their players for the last month and have borrowed about £150 million in order to progress with the day to day running of the club. The situation has mainly arisen because many banks have yet to pay back the money they owe to the club.
Many have speculated the same and have considered that if they were in such deep trouble they won’t bid around for pricey players. In addition, Rosell who still seems to have some beef with the previous president Laporta, had to degrade him before his campaign so it should be a rouse from him.
Barcelona like all other clubs are facing some financial constraints due to a recent credit crunch. They sold out their defender Dmytro Chygrynskiy to his former club Shakhtar Donetsk, just after he spent a year at Camp Nou.
Fabregas is not the only player Barcelona desires. Along with the Spanish midfielder, his Spanish team mate from Liverpool Fernando Torres is also being asked for in a reasonable price. Barcelona has made it clear that they will pay a just amount for both the players.
Media reports have made it clear that if the Spanish winners want the skipper of Gunners Fabregas with them, they will have to severe their ties with Ibrahimovic.
