Football: Torres wants to meet Hodgson, Manchester City buys Yaya Toure for 27.5 million
Despite not performing in the World Cup Fernando Torres is still refusing to comment on his future as he is determined to keep his focus for the all important semi final clash against Germany. He said he will not say anything about whether he is staying at Liverpool or not until he has spoken to the new Manager Roy Hodgson.
Although, no official bids have been made so far but Chelsea, Manchester City, and Barcelona are all very keen on securing the services of one of the most lethal strikers in World football.
Torres is on duty with his national side at the World Cup but so far has not scored a single goal despite starting every single match. So far he has been living in the shadows of his strike partner, David Villa, who is in inspired form and has scored 5 goals in the tournament.
Another hot prodigy at this year’s World Cup is the German play making sensation Mesut Ozil. He currently plays for German club Werder Bremen but after enjoying a super successful World Cup he is in high demand. Despite having a year left on his contract with Bremen he is more than likely to be heading out of Germany with Arsenal willing to spend in excess of 20-million pounds to bring the attacking midfielder to the Emirates.
Another striker who is in red hot form in South Africa is Germany’s Lukas Podolski. He is being courted by Manchester City, the Eastlands club that just completed the 27.5 million pound transfer of Yaya Toure, with weekly wages of 200,000 pounds. With that deal, Toure, is highest paid player in the history of the English Premier League. Manchester City has made it very clear that whoever decides to play at the City of Manchester Stadium will be a very rich man at the end of his stint with the club.
City’s next door neighbours, Manchester United are after the French discard Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema who just signed last year for the Los Blancos. But after failing to impress in his first season and with the arrival of new manager Jose Mourinho he is more than likely to be gracing the bench next season. With Sir Alex Ferguson being a long time admirer he will be offered a way out and it is more than likely that the player will be playing at Old Trafford come next season.
Where Jose Mourinho and Alex are expected to agree on one transfer they are expected to be at loggerheads for another. Germany’s midfield maestro Sami Khedira, who has been very impressive in South Africa, is wanted by both the managers. After a spell of very decent performances at the highest level his stocks have risen sharply. Khedira currently plays for VFB Stuttgart and his parent club are not likely to be charmed into any kind of a deal for their star man but in football money can do wonders.
Meanwhile, new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is preparing to bring the glory days back to the Mersey side club. He is looking for enforcements in the attacking department after selling one of his star performers of the last season, Yossi Benayoun to Chelsea for just 5 million pounds. The former Fulham manager is looking to buy the Costa Rica front man Bryan Ruiz.
Ruiz currently plays for the Dutch side FC Twente. After helping the club win the Dutch Eredivise last season he is in very high demand these days. Ruiz scored a staggering 27 goals last season and was the top scorer in his country last season.
