Would like to upgrade at WR, does this sound like a fair trade?

I Give: B. Roethlisberger, J. Cotchery

I Get: J. Cutler, L. Fitzgerald.

Is this a good trade??

  1. I guess I'm going against the conventional wisdom by saying yes, yes, yes, absoluetely yes.

I like Cotchery to have a good year as well.  He had over 1100 yards last year with a combination of Pennington and Clemens throwing to him, so one can only speculate how much better his situation is now with Favre at the helm.  However Fitzgerald is pretty much 'the guy' in Arizona.  Even with Boldin around Fitzgerald has hit 1400 yards in 2 of the last 3 seasons.  As much as I like Cotchery, I don't know whether or not he can hit those numbers, even with Favre.

Roethlisberger had a great year last year.  34 total TDs and an almost 3-1 TD-INT ratio.  But a big part of that was because they had to throw in the red zone so much because they lacked a serious goal-line back.  As a team the Steelers didn't even rush for double-digit TDs.  I really can't see that happening again, especially with the drafting of Mendenhall.  I think Ben will have a good year, but 25 TDs is much more likely.

Cutler on the other hand threw for almost 3500 yards, 20 TDs and only 11 picks.  Keep in mind it was only his first year as a starter, and for more than half the season he went undiagnosed with an acute case of diabetes that caused his to lose over 25 lbs during the course of the season.  So take last years stats, account for the fact that he's had another whole offseason to improve, he's treating his diabetes, and he has a freak at WR like Brandon Marshall (well, not for the first 2-3 games anyway), I like Cutler to have a breakout year.  I like him so much that I drafted him in my 2 QB league.

Hope I was able to help.

  2. I say no.

Big Ben will score significantly more points than Cutler. But if you've got Brees that devalues Big Ben.

It's really close but I'd stick with Cotchery, as Favre's fav target this preseason hopefully, he'll surprise you come reg season.

See if maybe you could get rid of Stallworth in the same trade.

  3. not at all.  i hope i answered this in time.  this trade is horrible for you.  larry fitz isnt gonna produce enough more than cotchery to make up for your loses on the qb end.  trust me when i say that cotchery will produce with favre at qb.

  4. i like Big Ben and do not care for Larry Fitz so I think you are giving up to much
