Football Transfer Deadline: Huntelaar joins Schalke, Fabiano Commits future to Sevilla and Gyan at Sunderland
It is the final day of the transfer window, as at 1800 BST the window will shut for another four months.
So far, it has been quite a final day of the transfer window and there have not been any marquee movements across the league but there has been three signings of note.
Firstly, the biggest name to make a move on the final day of the transfer window is Klaas Jan Huntelaar, who has left the Italian side AC Milan to join the Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04.
The 27 year old Dutch international striker has moved to Gelsenkirchen for a fee of 13 million Euros and now joins his former Real Madrid team-mate, Raul Gonzalez who also moved to Veltins-Arena earlier in the summer.
The Schalke 04 coach, Felix Magath has said that the negotiations for the transfer were way tougher than he expected and he was very happy that he has finally secured the signature of a proven goal scorer.
Klaas Jan had failed to establish himself as a first team regular at Real Madrid in the presence of Higuain and Raul and then his also failed to do the same at AC Milan and could only muster 15 goals in 50 appearances for the Rosseneris.
Huntelaar was a very promising talent back in the day while he was playing for Ajax Amsterdam, where he scored a staggering 80 goals in 104 appearances; it was his performances at the Amsterdam Arena that got him noticed worldwide but since moving away from the Amsterdam Arena, the striker has struggled to emulate his form for club and country.
Huntelaar in an interview after the transfer said that he never wanted to leave the San Siro but things changed when the Rosseneris signed Ibrahimovic on loan from Barcelona.
In another deadline day transfer, Sunderland have all but secured the transfer of Ghanaian striking prodigy, Asamoah Gyan.
Sunderland have been looking for a striker for quite a while now to partner Darren Bent up front but so far had not been able to snap anyone due to the inflated market prices and their paucity of funds but after reaching an agreement with Rennes the striker arrived in England this morning.
Gyan came to the notice of all and sundry at the summer’s world cup in South Africa, where his stellar performances for his country helped his side reached the last 16.
Steve Bruce is keen to bolster his striking options and hopes that he will wrap up all the formalities before the 6 pm deadline.
It is believed that a deal worth about 12 million pounds has already been agreed between the clubs and the transfer will be rubber stamped once the player passes his medical and agrees personal terms with the Black Cats.
The 24 year old had joined Rennes from Italian club Udinese in 2008 and has scored 14 times for the French club.
In another deadline day signature but not a move, Luis Fabiano broke the hearts of Harry Redknapp and Spurs fans as he agreed a two year contract extension with his club Sevilla.
The Brazilian striker had been the centre of transfer speculations after the World Cup but the striker has now decided to commit his future to the Andalusian Club.
Fabiano joined the Los Planganas from FC Porto in 2005 and since then has been playing a pivotal role in clubs success. He has been a prolific goal scorer for the Los nervionenses and has also helped the club win two UEFA Cups, two Copa Del Reys and European and the Spanish Super Cups.
