Football Transfer Gossip: Liverpool, Manchester City and Aston Villa ready to do some Business
Media reports have confirmed that Liverpool is agreeing with Aston Villa on the transfer of the clubs, and have settled down to a 2 and a half million pound transfer in which the 31 year old defender Luke Young will join the Reds at Anfield this season.
Liverpool will be in a crisis in their defence department, as they plan to send off and sell their defenders Fabio Aurelio, Philipp Degen and Emiliano Insua. They actually plan to release Aurelio while Degen will be traded off for cash and Insua, who had already announced his lack of enthusiasm will be sent off to another club and of course the cash acquired in the process will the club build a new defence.
With Carlos Cuellar coming to the right back position at Aston Villa, the Lions will have to see off their other choice Young. Liverpool, who finished below the Villains last season at the 7th position, while Villa came in 6th, are impressed by the defender. Villa are shuffling their defence and therefore it has become harder to make place for Young in their team.
At Liverpool, matters are still unclear, if their manager Roy Hodgson wants to put Young in the reserve team or wants the player to play the current right back position Glen Johnson or the departing left back Emiliano Insua. Young is known for his skill to play in all defensive positions, so perhaps Hodgosn is willing to test him at a couple of positions and then will make his final decision.
The manager of the Villa Martin O’Neill used Young at the left back position on field in the season of 2009-10 but he couldn’t play all season, as an injury ruled him out and he was replaced by Wilfred Bouma. After that, he lost his game and didn’t attract the manager for the position anymore therefore playing just 14 English Premier League games in the season.
Young will also assist Liverpool in adding some more experience to the squad, as the new home grown and newly bought young players are expected to be a major part of Liverpool this season.
Young is among the few players that have been put for sale. He is also among the few players that Liverpool have been interested in buying and therefore the sale is very likely to happen.
While talking to media O'Neill stated, “There has been an offer from a football club which Luke is mulling over and, if it doesn't materialise, then he would join us (in Portugal for the Guadiana Cup) because he needs to play some football soon”. He added, “We will see how that develops”.
The 31 year old defender has played in a couple of other big clubs including Tottenham Hotspur, which was actually the club where he started from and then he went on to Charlton Athletic, after which he played for Middlesbrough. For Middlesbrough, he performed outstandingly and was eventually bought by Aston Villa for 5 million pounds in 2008.
Injuries and the death of his brother tarnished his campaign, while his replacement, Carlos Cuellar’s magnificent performance took away the right back spot from him. His team and defender James Collins has suffered from an injury and his recovery will have a role to play in his transfer too. He was injured in a friendly while playing against Walsall at home in the Banks's Stadium.
The Welsh international player was brought off just after 3 minutes of play in the match that was won by the Lions 2-1. There are rumours speculating the transfer of James Milner being linked with Tottenham and Manchester City. The team is travelling to Portugal for training and then they have friendless against Feyenoord and Benfica.
O'Neill has told on Milner that the club has rejected the 20 million pound offered by the Citizens for Milner but they both are still sitting at the table negotiating and an agreement might be reached.
On the other hand, Wayne Bridge from Manchester City is being linked with a transfer to Liverpool. The 29 year old English player was used to play at Chelsea is being wanted by Liverpool and a bid of 5 million pounds is in place.
