Football Transfer News: Ashley Cole to remain with Chelsea
Chelsea is certainly adamant about not selling their star defender Ashley Cole, but the persistent Portuguese Jose Mourinho does not understand that. That is probably because of his ego or because of the fact that he hasn’t been able to achieve his dream team as yet with the La Liga starting in a few days time.
Earlier when Mourinho, the former Chelsea coach, made his switch from Inter Milan to Real Madrid, he was handed a large amount of money to spend it on his favorite players and he simply picked out the best players from the top teams in the world. In the process, Cole’s name came up and an official bid of 25 million pounds was laid on him. Speculation became rife that Cole might be leaving for Real but that hasn’t happened so far.
That has mainly been happening because of the constant refusals from the Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti. Nevertheless, he is not the only man that Mourinho is trying to attract from Stamford Bridge. He has also been trying to pull Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba to the Bernabeu. All those demands have so far been ignored and it is likely that the situation will remain the same way.
Cole has recently been quite troubled by not just his performance but because of his personal life as well. In February this year, it became clear that his wife Cheryl Cole was having troubles with him which was why she had filed papers for divorce in May.
Since then, the former Arsenal player has made a comeback and though the 29-year-old’s World Cup campaign with England did not go according to plan, his form has remained good. Chelsea’s Chairman Bruce Buck has also announced that the player is making a move to nowhere. He said, “Ashley Cole is not for sale, that's the bottom line. There's no doubt he is going to be a Chelsea player this season”. He added to that while praising the player, “Ashley is a superb player. He is a delight to deal with around the football club, he gets on well with everyone, he trains very well and he is really a model athlete”.
The chairman also clarified that Drogba will be staying with Chelsea and he hoped that the star player would get well soon from his injuries. He commented on Drogba’s injuries when he said, “The club position is pretty straightforward. Didier had the golden boot, he had a great season and is an important part of our plans for this season and the future and he is not for sale”.
However, there is one Chelsea man that might make a move to Bernabeu and that is the 32-year-old Portuguese player Ricardo Carvalho. Mourinho is interested in the move which is why the footballer in a recent interview said, “If there was a possibility to sign with Real Madrid, I would go there right now swimming or running. It would be a dream to be able to play for Madrid, which I consider to be the best club in the world, and follow the orders of the best coach in the history of football”.
The star defender added to that by saying, “With Mourinho I experienced two marvelous stages at Porto and Chelsea. To have the opportunity to win another Champions League with him at Real Madrid would be tremendous”.
The centre back has a long history with Mourinho who has worked with him at Porto. He was then brought to Chelsea when the manager took command in 2004 for a 20 million pound deal. He is also about to cap 200 times for the London club.
However in recent times, the value of the player has decreased considerably. Ancelotti is thinking of pairing up with Captain John Terry at Stamford Bridge. It was speculated that the player might make a move to Inter Milan but not anymore as Mourinho is thinking of adding further experience to his well polished side. Reports suggest that if Chelsea is presented with an offer of 5 million pounds for Carvalho, the deal could take place.
