Football Transfer News: Players who Aston Villa should consider signing
Aston Villa has always been the team that possesses a lot of potential but fails to perform when required. For the past couple of months, Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neil has been trying to sign players and make transfers that would bring an end to that curse. When Milner does decide to leave for City, it would leave Villa with a significant amount of money to spend in the transfer market. This would allow O’Neil to strengthen the team even further. Here is a look at some of the players that experts believe O’Neil will be looking to buy to help strengthen the squad.
Aston Villa has the inability to score crucial goals in front of goal which remains the main problem for the team in the last couple of seasons. Moreover, Agbonlahor is the only quality striker for the team at the moment. The other striker that they have on the squad is Emile Heskey who has stated that he wished to retire sooner rather than later. The best player that is suited to Villa’s style of play is Wigan Athletics’ forward, Hugo Rodallega. Rodallega would be available for as low as four and a half million pounds and would be the ideal signing for Villa to support Gabriel Agbonlahor upfront. He posses the pace and ability to hold the ball that could prove to be very crucial in the Premier League and he also has more than a decent goal scoring record. The striker has managed thirteen goals for Wigan; however, with a much better team behind him and much better wingers, he would definitely do much better at Villa, that is if he does make the move.
Aston Villa has been long time admirers of Scott Parker. He is one of the few English players left out there who doesn’t mind getting stuck in a tackle. He is a ruthless player who operates brilliantly in the midfield. Parker would be a great replacement for Milner if not a better one. Scott Parker is a born leader and would be a tremendous role model for the Villa players. With his abilities to break down opponents’ attacks and construct attacks out of nothing, the player would be the perfect addition to Villa’s midfield. The only problem is, whether or not Villa wants to spend such a large amount of money in the player. One of West Ham’s co-owners, David Sullivan recently said that Villa didn’t have enough money to lure the player out of West Ham.
If James Milner does move to Manchester City, then Villa doesn’t really need to look far to find a replacement for the player. They can recruit Stephen Ireland to the club. Ireland has been nothing short of fantastic for City but they still insist that he isn’t star quality. What City actually means is that he isn’t well known throughout the world and wouldn’t act as a major attraction to lure people to watch their games. However, Ireland possesses tremendous skills and is an amazing play maker; he would be a fantastic addition to the midfield at Villa. Along with players like Agbonlahor and Young upfront, he will be able to produce some killer balls that could and most likely would lead to numerous goals for the players and the team.
What this means is that the departure of Milner from the squad won’t result in a disaster for the team. On the contrary, it would be highly beneficial for Villa. The transfer would generate a large amount of income for the team which, if wisely used, could help them buy two or three players. No matter what way that is looked at, three players are definitely better than one.
