Football Transfer News: Real Madrid's Rafael van der Vaart Wants To Join Manchester United
Rafael Van der Vaart has recently hinted towards a move away from Bernabeu this summer. During an interview with the press, he suggested that he would join Manchester United if the Red Devils show an interest in hiring his services.
Van der Vaart was part of the Dutch team during the recent World Cup in South Africa. He has also been a part of Real Madrid for the past two years. He initially said that he would stay at Bernabeu for the current season; however, as Mourinho continues to sign other players like Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria, Van der Vaart’s position in the first-team comes under threat.
There is no doubt that Van der Vaart is unwanted in Real Madrid right now. Despite his efforts, he has failed to win a permanent place in his team. Also, he was a part of the last two unsuccessful seasons in Real Madrid, due to which he has lost his credibility. Real Madrid wanted to do away with most of their attacking players last year, as they signed a new breed of Madrid players in the shape of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso.
Van der Vaart was placed on the transfer list, but he did not get his transfer last year. Even last year, some big clubs (including Manchester United) were interested in signing Van der Vaart.
Although Jose Mourinho has said nothing about the future of Van der Vaart, he has made his intentions clear by signing a variety of other midfielders. Kaka already features in the team, and the new signings have shown that Van der Vaart’s position might be restricted to the benches.
Therefore, Van der Vaart suggested that he would be willing to join Manchester United if he gets a start in the first team. He said that Alex Ferguson is a great coach and playing under him would be a great experience. He also said that winning trophies is very important but he cannot stay in Madrid if Mourinho has no intentions of making him useful for his team. Van der Vaart said that leaving Real Madrid would be a step down for him, but Manchester United is a good substitute.
Manchester United has been linked with Rafael van der Vaart for a very long time now. However, this interest has remained to base levels, as no further steps have been taken to ensure the player’s presence at Old Trafford. This season, this might become a necessity for Manchester United, who are facing problems of their own. With Ronaldo leaving the club, there has been a lack of quality in the team, as other players have generally failed to step up to the challenge.
The existing players in Madrid are reaching their limits, as Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes have only a little left in terms of playing football. Van der Vaart, on the other hand, is 27 years old and there are a few more seasons left in the player. Therefore, it would be a big advantage to Manchester United if they are able to hire his services for the future.
However, the only problem facing United would be a lack of consistency and injury problems to the Dutch midfielder. He has not played a lot of football since joining Real Madrid two years ago. He played in only 16 league matches, and came as a substitute in 10 matches last season. Again, during the World Cup, he was hampered by injury, due to which he starred in 5 matches, while coming as a substitute in two of those fixtures. This concern might create problems for him in terms of getting a possible transfer to some big club.
If Manchester United sign Van der Vaart, this might be a gamble for Sir Alex Ferguson. However, other Dutch players that left Real Madrid last year have been more successful, which is a good sign for Van der Vaart, who might be having problems in adjusting himself. Maybe a move away from Spain would do him some good in the future.
