Football Transfer News: Robinho and Landon Donovan aim to stay with their current clubs
Former Everton loanee Landon Donovan has hinted at a possible return to the English Premier League club, although the player’s true employers, the LA Galaxy, want the player to stay in America. The 28-year-old midfielder has been with the LA Galaxy since 2005 and has spent his second loan spell away from the USA - he first being with Bayern Munich in 2009. Donovan has however hinted a complete move to the Everton, and made 13 appearances for the club in the last season, scoring two very crucial goals.
While talking to a newspaper, Landon stated that he would love to go back and play for the Toffees. The player claimed that he loved the club’s environment, the coaching staff and above all, the fans, and would love to be part of such a club. The 28-year-old however admitted that he loved being in his homeland, and would therefore have to keep a lot of things in his mind before making such a decision. The player has made over 130 appearances for Galaxy, scoring on 67 occasions. The player was therefore unsure of his decision, and would consult everyone before taking it. The midfielder added that he would want to make the best decision possible. Upon asking about the rumours linking the midfielder away to other clubs, Donovan stated that its normal to hear such news, and admitted that some clubs have been interested in him. However, Donovan clarified that it’s only the beginning and there is still a long way to go before a confirmed deal is made.
The player stated that there is still a lot of time for the transfer window to close, and would have to wait and see what transpires. Donovan claimed that if something serious does spring up, the matter would be dealt soberly. Donovan greatly impressed everyone while playing for his national side in the World Cup. The player managed to score 3 important goals, including the equalizer against Ghana in the Round of 16. The American scored the last gasp winner against Algeria, which led them to top the group and avoid Germany in the Round of 16. USA’s World Cup dreams however, ended prematurely, when Ghana defeated America 2-1.
In other news, Manchester City reject Robinho aims to stay with his current club, Santos, with which he spent the second half of the previous season on loan. The player is due to go back to the Eastlands, following his World Cup break, but insists he want to stay with his former club, after enjoying a successful 6 month period with Santos.
Manchester City paid a record breaking 30.5 million pounds for the Brazilian in 2008, which was a world record transfer at the time. The player has however found it hard to make an impression with City, and is unsettled, despite playing his second season with the club. The player played 21 games for his boyhood club, scoring 11 times. The player was also impressive at his time with Brazilian national team in the World Cup, scoring two goals. The player gave his national side the lead in the opening minutes of the quarterfinal match against the Netherlands, but the Dutch fought back and won 2-1 to eliminate the Brazilians.
While talking to local reporters, Robinho claimed that it would always be hard to encourage the English to sell him off to Santos, but expected the board of directors of the Brazilian club to be successful. The player added that his heart belonged to Brazil and admitted that he was unsettled at the Premier league. The player confirmed that many European clubs have held talks with his agents, but currently, nothing can be decided until Manchester City and Santos have a meeting.
Since joining Manchester City from Real Madrid back in 2008, the Brazilian has made only 53 appearances in all competitions, and has only scored 16 goals. This can be contrasted with the fact that despite having substitute appearances for Real Madrid, the player scored 35 times in 132 appearances. City would want to recover some cash from their 30.5 million pound flop, and Santos doesn’t look the club who can afford such finances.
