Football Transfer News: Zlatan Ibrahimovic Staying At Barcelona
Zlatan Ibrahimovic was signed by Barcelona, from Inter Milan, last season. The deal saw Samuel Eto’o going to Internazionale, as a replacement, while Barcelona paid a heavy price as well. This deal saw Ibrahimovic becoming the second most valued player in football, after Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, the season was not good enough for the Swedish striker, as he almost failed to deliver the job he was supposed to do for the team. He scored only 16 goals in La Liga, while only four goals were scored by the Swede in the Champions League. On the other hand, the whole show was stolen by the young Lionel Messi, who was the top scorer for the club, during the last season.
The failure of the Swede led Pep Guardiola, the head coach at Barcelona, to make another big decision. This summer he brought another prolific goal-scorer, David Villa, to Camp Nou. Villa has the ability to score a lot of goals, while he is also known for his abilities to play other teammates during the course of the matches. Due to this signing, it was rumoured that Ibrahimovic had his days numbered at Catalunya, as he will no longer be needed in the presence of David Villa. Due to this the transfer, all sorts of speculations started and many clubs paced their efforts to sign the striker. Among all these clubs, Manchester City and Manchester United showed the most enthusiasm in signing Ibrahimovic.
Actually, with the signing of Villa, Ibrahimovic will have to fight for his place in the first team of Barcelona. During an interview with the press, Ibrahimovic reiterated that he had no intention of leaving the club, even after the signing of David Villa. He said that the team has gotten stronger than before, after the signing, and he will like to stay a part of the team. He also showed his contentment on his stay at Barcelona, while stating that their chances of winning trophies have increased. About the transfer rumours, he said that he is not holding talks with any of the clubs, while the media is only giving him more publicity.
Ibrahimovic is the player who has played under Jose Mourinho, in Inter Milan. Ironically, now he will be playing against him, as the latter has joined Real Madrid as the head coach. Ibrahimovic is aware of the qualities of Jose, as he said that the Portuguese has the abilities to guide any team to success. However, he said that Barcelona is the best club in the world, while the success is guaranteed for them.
The major goal of any player is to win trophies; a goal that forced Ibrahimovic to join Barcelona. However, he was quite unlucky as Barcelona was not as successful as Inter Milan, the club left by Ibrahimovic. This time, however, Ibrahimovic is keen on winning the big tournaments for the team.
Even if, Ibrahimovic stays at Barcelona, his days are actually numbered at Camp Nou. He will not be placed in the lime-light, quite often, like the previous season.
