Football Transfer Rumours: Manchester United Trying To Retain Nemanja Vidic
Manchester United is one of the best defensive sides in Europe, and recently it is their lack of options in attacking that let them down in the English Premier League. The defence of United is led by the likes of Patrice Evra, Wes Brown, Rio Ferdinand and the best of them, Nemanja Vidic. He is known for his excellent defensive abilities and clean tackles. In addition, the forwards fear this defender because he does not fear any player in the World, while closing them down. In the recent years, the success of Manchester United is dependent a lot upon this explosive Serbian.
However, recently it seems that there is rift going on in the Manchester United’s camp. Vidic clearly wants more than what he is being paid right now, however, Manchester United showed a little hesitation in meeting the demand of the defender. It is actually a policy of the American Owners of United, that they generally do not offer any new deals, unless one year remains in the contracts. Therefore, it was highly unlikely that the demands would be met, due to which a lot of clubs started seeking the defender, including the Spanish giants, Real Madrid.
Real Madrid has recently made changes, with the signing of Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese manager is known for the defensive style tactics, which have helped him to overcome the toughest challenges in Europe. Right now, the defence of the Madrid’s team is very poor, certainly not matching the standards of the Mourinho’s old teams. With the exception of Pepe and Sergio Ramos, there are hardly any defenders that fall in the category of world-class players. Vidic, however, is one of the best options that can be available to the Portuguese mastermind. Therefore, Real Madrid is in the front of the race for the signing of the Serbian.
Already, Manchester United is going through a phase of transition, when they hardly have a complete squad for their games. They are going through a crisis in their attacking options, ever since Ronaldo left the team, for Real Madrid. Last year, when United had troubles with injuries to Ferdinand and Vidic, the youngsters were promoted to fill the gap. However, the void left by these world-class players is not easy enough to fill.
Even this year, Ferdinand is still in doubts because of his injuries, and there are chances that he might miss the start of the season for the team. In the current United’s squad, they rely heavily on their back four to bring out the favourable results, in shape of narrow victories. If Vidic leaves the team, this year, then United will be further down the drain, and might face a threat of losing their spot in the top four.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, really needs a player like Vidic to improve their defensive capabilities. Last year, in many matches, Madrid had to score a lot many goals, as their defenders gave away the goals cheaply. No changes have been made in the squad, as far as the defending is concerned. Therefore, a change in Madrid’s squad is imminent, if Jose Mourinho wants to pose any threat to the superiority of their archrivals, Barcelona.
A deal is only possible, if a player is approached officially by the club. However, in this case, the manager of Vidic has denied any contact by Real Madrid. Therefore, right now these are just rumours, which have no credibility at all. On the other hand, Manchester United’s owners have realized the importance of the player. Therefore, they have decided to change their policy a little bit, by offering Vidic a raise even though he has more than one year left in his contract.
Now, all is dependent on Vidic, either he chooses this increase in pay, or he refuses to show his intent to leave Manchester United. In both the cases, the player can play an important role in the team’s future prospects of winning trophies.
